Job Summary:
As a Construction Accounting Specialist, you will provide support to our accounting and operations teams with accurate job-cost tracking, payroll processing, revenue and expense tracking and detailed financial analysis. This position reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer and will collaborate closely with the Chief Executive Officer and the Chief Financial Officer in implementing and improving all aspects of the accounting function. We are currently seeking a Construction Accounting Specialists with expertise in heavy civil construction with an emphasis on Tennessee Department of Transportation experience. The ideal candidate is detailed-oriented and initiative-taking to assist in the various accounting functions.
Compensation and benefits will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Responsibilities:
- Manage and improve job costing processes, including budgets, cost codes, and profitability by job.
- Maintain and improve accounting systems, workflows, and internal controls.
- Assist with month-end close activities including cost reviews, accruals, journal entries, and reconciliations.
- Review and code invoices and credit card transactions to ensure proper posting to the correct job and cost codes.
- Support and review the payroll function and be responsible for certified payrolls on projects requiring those.
- Support audit and other reporting requests ensuring the accuracy and completeness of any external or internal reports.
- Assist in preparation of pay estimates, supporting documentation, lien waivers, and any other related reporting.
- Manage accounts receivable and accounts payable to ensure proper coding, documentation, and processing.
- Work closely with project managers, operations, and management to ensure financial data is accurate, timely and current.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 5 years of experience in heavy civil construction.
- Certified Public Accountant is preferred but not required.
- Strong accounting experience in heavy civil construction.
- Thorough understanding of job costing, construction estimates, lien waivers, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, and project-based financial reporting.
- Detailed oriented and initiative-taker
- Proficiency in Microsoft programs, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Proficiency in QuickBooks Online.
- Previous experience in accounting software conversion and implementation is preferred.
- Strong organizational and communication skills and ability to be a team member across functions.
