JOB DESCRIPTION

General Overview:

 

The George Washington Young Adult Borough Center (YABC) is an alternative afternoon and evening program designed to meet the educational needs of high school students who are behind in credit or have adult responsibilities that make it hard to attend school during the day. Students attend YABCs part-time/full time in the afternoon or evening to earn a high school diploma. The YABC program is designed to re-engage high school students who are over-age and under-credited or have dropped out of high school.

 

East Side House Settlement is directly responsible for the administration of each school’s Learning-to-Work Program, which enhances the school’s academic component by offering additional academic support, career and education exploration, work preparation, skills development, and internships.

 

Under the supervision of the Program Director, with latitude for independent judgment, the Assistant Director will be responsible to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and ability required, but not limited to:

 

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Please note: Due to COVID-19, it is at the discretion and direction of the LTW Department Director and Program Director to determine if any duties and responsibilities can be done remotely. Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

· Work in tandem with Program Director to ensure that the partnership between East Side House and the DOE site is in good standing

· Provide direct support for the Program Director in areas of staff management and development, as well as oversee, and administer, the LTW internship program

· Help supervise advisors to ensure that attendance outreach is completed daily, home visits are conducted when necessary, and student logs stay current. Ensure that post-secondary support and

college exploration is incorporated into student engagement. Conduct regular documentation audits via Salesforce, Civic App, and other databases

· Conduct intake interviews with students and family members. Interviews may need to be conducted remotely via Department of Education approved platforms

· Help advise a caseload primarily of students participating in the Learning to Work (LTW) program, and provide added support in their academic, career and personal goals. Some individual and group work will require usage of remote platforms, or be socially distant

· Ensure that all fiscal documents are being submitted in a timely manner, which include: bi-weekly internship payroll on Paycom and data reports to program funders

· Maintain updated records of all fiscal transactions for the year which include: monthly LTW internship budget

· Maintain ongoing contact with employers to learn of new internship and/or employment needs as well as problems arising from existing placements

· Solicit, develop and cultivate internship and/or job opportunities within the community including use of calls and visits to employers to maintain internship partner’ relations

· Reach the minimum number of internship enrollment by February 1

· Establish liaisons with corporate and nonprofit organizations for identification of employment and internship opportunities, and to provide workshops and mentoring opportunities for students including coordination with other community youth employment assistance programs

· Assist students in developing and achieving life/career goals that are assessed throughout LTW weekly seminars and during individual career exploration

· Prepare and present curriculum to students on job readiness and related topics; facilitate interactive seminars (resume and cover letter development, interview skills, job search and search strategies).

· Ensure the program establishes 3 to 5 new internship sites every year while maintaining necessary partnership contracts in order

· Maintain database tracking and reporting of each student’s progress and measurable outcomes including timely entry of case notes of weekly meetings and incidents, and employment

· Assist in making purchase orders for student incentives and special events

· Managing alumni events and alumni data tracking

· Refer students to academic and support services as needed

· Attend administrative meetings, program trainings and staff development

· Participate in civic and community building efforts, initiative, coalitions, and activities as assigned via East Side House

· Participate and help arrange field trips, special events and extracurricular activities

· Actively participate in assigned staff development trainings, team meetings, and program meetings

· Provide suggestions for program improvement and implementation

· Other duties as assigned

 

Other Duties

Please note that in case of a DOE shutdown, East Side House Settlement will re-issue protocols accordingly.

Qualifications


Requisite Education/ Experience:

· B.A/ B.S.W. with at least two years’ experience with youth-related work

· Excellent verbal, analytical, writing, communication, organizational skills

· Strong interpersonal skills and time management skills

· Flexible and adaptable

· Previous supervisory experience strongly preferred

· Experience working in a school building preferred

· Ability to work in a team oriented environment and multi-task

· Demonstrated knowledge of community service/ development

· Knowledge and experience in WordPerfect/ Microsoft Word / Google Suite, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and other applications.

 

Required Clearance 1. Clearance by the Department of Education (DOE)

2. Any COVID-19 related clearances as needed, if needed.

Work Environment Business casual. This job operates in a school office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

 

Work Schedule

· This is a full time position. Work days/hours subject to change based on ESH’s needs, pending school schedule

· Monday – Thursday, 1:00PM – 9:00PM

· Friday, 9:00AM – 5:00PM

· Some evenings, weekends, and remote work required

· Maintain flexible hours and work days, some overnight trips required

 

Travel

Travel will be required to secure internship sites, to conduct site-visits, and to meet with site supervisors and East Side House main building to DOE site.

 

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. This is generally a sedentary role; however, some filing and site visits are required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.
