Responsibilities
The School Social Worker provides individual, group, and classroom support to students to foster social-emotional development and positive behavioral outcomes. This position supports both building- and district-wide behavior initiatives, collaborates with teachers, administrators, and multidisciplinary teams, and assists students in developing social skills and healthy peer relationships. The role includes participation on the district’s Crisis Intervention Team and Mental Health Advisory Committee, as well as implementing a social-emotional identification, screening, and referral process for elementary students. Additional responsibilities include conducting social work evaluations for students suspected of having disabilities or receiving special education services, offering pre-referral consultation to staff, attending MET and IEPT meetings, and overseeing the implementation of Section 504 plans to ensure students receive appropriate supports for academic and emotional growth.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree from a graduate school of social work program approved by the State Board of Education
- Master of Social Work (MSW) degree with State of Michigan licensure
- School Social Work Certification or a willingness to complete the required coursework upon hire
- Demonstrated skill in report writing, evaluation, and interview procedures
- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary setting
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to meet deadlines for reports, forms, and required documentation
- Demonstrated commitment to professional growth and ongoing learning
