Role Description

The School Social Worker is a full-time, on-site role located in Lansing, MI. In this role, the social worker will provide direct, in-person services to students, including individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, and social-emotional support. The position involves conducting assessments, developing and implementing intervention plans, and monitoring student progress in collaboration with educators and multidisciplinary teams. The social worker will actively engage families and caregivers, coordinate community resources, and participate in IEP and other school-based meetings to support student success. Additional responsibilities include maintaining clear documentation, adhering to ethical and legal standards, and contributing to a positive, inclusive school climate.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited program.
• Appropriate Michigan licensure and eligibility to work as a School Social Worker in Michigan.
• Experience providing social-emotional, behavioral, and counseling support to students in a school setting,.
• Knowledge of special education processes, including IEPs, evaluations, documentation, and school-based service delivery.
• Ability to conduct assessments, develop individualized interventions, and support students with a range of social, emotional, behavioral, and academic needs.
• Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively with educators, families, caregivers, administrators, and multidisciplinary teams.
• Excellent communication, documentation, time-management, and organizational skills, with a commitment to confidentiality and professional ethics.
• Familiarity with trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and evidence-based practices.
• Ability to work in person in the Lansing, Michigan area and provide compassionate, inclusive, student-centered support.
