Responsibilities
- Assist healthcare providers with patient intake, vital signs measurement, and documentation of medical histories in electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Support clinical procedures including phlebotomy, medication administration, and basic life support (BLS) as required within correctional facilities.
- Maintain accurate medical records, ensuring compliance with privacy regulations and proper ICD coding for diagnoses.
- Prepare examination rooms and ensure all medical supplies are stocked and properly sterilized for daily use.
- Support patient service activities by providing clear communication, addressing patient inquiries, and ensuring a respectful environment.
- Assist with medication management and documentation of treatments administered during outpatient visits or inpatient stays.
- Follow safety protocols specific to correctional healthcare settings while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality at all times.
Skills
- Proven experience in medical assisting within hospital medicine, urgent care, or outpatient settings.
- Knowledge of dermatology, internal medicine, emergency medicine, geriatrics, and physiology fundamentals.
- Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR/EHR systems), EMR (Electronic Medical Records), and ICD coding practices.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, pharmacology, and medication administration procedures.
- Experience with phlebotomy, vital signs collection, and basic life support certification (BLS).
- Ability to manage medical documentation accurately while maintaining confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Excellent patient service skills combined with effective communication and teamwork abilities.
