School Adjustment Counselor (Substitute 8-12 weeks)

East Falmouth School

2025-2026 School Year

 

Anticipated Schedule: Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday 

 

JOB GOALS:  To help students overcome problems that impede learning and to assist them in emotional and psychological growth and maturation.The School Adjustment Counselor will assist students with academic learning and academic achievement by providing strategic services that identify and address the social-emotional and behavioral concerns that interfere with learning. Working with parents/guardians, teachers, school principal/principal’s designee and community based resources; the school adjustment counselor will implement strategies that promote students’ positive school adjustment and overall well-being.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree in social work or counseling psychology.
  • MA DESE Licensed or eligible for licensure as a School Adjustment Counselor. Licensed Social Worker desirable.
  • Demonstrated competence in establishing strong interpersonal relationships with children and adults.
  • Knowledge of available human services in related areas.
  • Two year’s minimum experience in counseling school aged children in a schools setting, mental health clinic or appropriate human services agency, preferred.
  • Intensive course work and practical experience in social work, clinical psychology, counseling, child development, education and group processes.
  • Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply.
  • Such other alternatives as the Superintendent of Schools may deem acceptable and appropriate.
  • Safety Care Trained or willing to be trained to support school based team.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Member of a special education  team, Implements individual and group counseling and treatment services to students and families as required by the IEP process.
  • Actively engage as a partner in the Instructional Support Team process to support our multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) 
  • Provides teacher consultation as necessary.
  • Serves as a referral agent to obtain necessary aid from specialized public or private organizations.
  • Reports on student progress 
  • Provides home assessment for Special Education evaluations as required.
  • Supervises mental health-counseling interns as needed.
  • Works to create a school climate of caring and mutual respect for all individuals.
  • Works as a member of the school team that is available for crisis intervention to diffuse behavior problems.
  • Performs other program-related duties as assigned.
  • Conduct classroom social skills activities as needed
  • Fulfill such other responsibilities as may from time to time be assigned by the Principal and/or designee.

 

SALARY:  In accordance with FPS Substitute Rates
