Long Term Subsitute Adjustment Counselor
March 3, 2026 - May 29, 2026 - with the possibility of an extension.
JOB SUMMARY:
The Elementary Adjustment Counselor/Social Worker is responsible for meeting the developmental needs of students. They will support students navigating social/emotional and/or academic challenges through the use of counseling, consulting, coordinating, and managing. Provide support services that improve home, school, and community connections addressing barriers to learning.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to):
- Provide counseling to students in need, utilizing individual and group therapy.
- Contribute to the positive culture and climate of the school and district community.
- Provide assistance and guidance to faculty and staff related to the social-emotional and mental health needs of all students.
- Provide social, emotional, and academic support to students.
- Maintain positive and supportive relationships with students, their families, and when relevant, outside providers.
- Provide consultation and support to staff with crisis intervention and conflict resolution skills.
- Facilitate social skills groups and other groups.
- Work as part of the school-based team in developing appropriate educational services for students.
- Participate in pre-referral conferences with school personnel in a team context for appropriate intervention and coordination of referral services to external agencies.
- Assist school leadership in the development and implementation of behavior support plans.
- Develop a school counseling program aligned with standards established by MASCA.
- Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct.
- Assist the administration in implementing District goals and policies related to the educational and operational needs of the District.
- Attend staff or team meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
- Perform any job-related task or duty at the direction of the building principal or central office administrators.
- Participate in Building Crisis Team
QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's degree in social work/counseling or a related field
- Minimum of 3 years experience in a school or a social service setting with school-age children
- DESE license School Adjustment Counselor/School Social Worker (PK-12)
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or his/her designee may find appropriate
- Excellent oral, written, and communication skills
- Citizenship, residency, or work visa required
- Cori and fingerprint clearance are required
