Overview
The EMT is a key member of the EBCED team, providing high-quality prehospital care, supporting EMS operations, and assisting in the training of students. EMTs must meet Idaho licensure requirements and be credentialed in all EBCED-authorized Optional Modules.
This at-will, hourly position is available full-time (two 24-hour shifts/week) or part-time (one 24-hour shift/week), with a maximum of 19 compensated hours per shift per the Sleep Compensation Policy. Shift scheduling is at the discretion of the Chief of Operations.
Primary duties include staffing ambulances as Lead EMTs and performing station responsibilities such as administrative tasks, equipment checks, mentoring, and vehicle/station upkeep. All care must follow the EBCED Medical Supervision Plan, Operational Plan, and Idaho EMT protocols.
Full-time employees are eligible for benefits including PERSI; part-time are not. Both roles are eligible for Compensatory Time Off.
Responsibilities
- Respond promptly to emergency calls, providing immediate medical assistance at the scene of accidents, medical crises, or disasters.
- Perform thorough patient assessments, including vital signs measurement, physical examinations, and physiological evaluations to determine the severity of injuries or illnesses.
- Administer basic life support (BLS) procedures such as airway management, oxygen therapy, and medication administration following established protocols.
- Utilize advanced skills like venipuncture and injections when necessary to deliver medications.
- Operate and maintain emergency medical equipment (DME), ensuring all devices are functioning correctly and sterile techniques are adhered to during patient care.
- Transport patients safely via ambulance or air transport, managing critical care needs during transit while monitoring vital signs and adjusting treatment as required.
- Collaborate with hospital staff during patient handoff, providing detailed reports on patient condition, treatments administered, and ongoing care needs.
- Maintain accurate documentation of all patient interactions, treatments provided, and incident reports in compliance with healthcare regulations.
- Demonstrate proficiency in emergency medicine procedures within Level I Trauma Centers or similar high-acuity environments, including trauma triage and critical care transport.
- Respond to EMS calls and provide compassionate, professional care

Qualifications

Education & Certifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Idaho EMT licensure and EBCED Medical Director credentialing
- Authorized in all EMT-level Optional Modules (or obtain within 4 months)
- Valid Idaho driver's license
- Current BLS/CPR certification
Experience
- 1 year EMS experience (Required)
- Strong clinical, interpersonal, and team-based skills
- Ability to work 24-hour shifts, drive in rural conditions, and lift/move patients
- Hands-on experience with airway management techniques and administering injections or medications in high-pressure situations.
- Strong knowledge of physiology, anatomy, medical terminology, vital signs interpretation, and aseptic techniques.
- Proven ability to perform patient assessments through physical examinations and vital sign analysis accurately.
- Experience with venipuncture procedures and medication administration protocols is essential for comprehensive patient care.
- Demonstrated skill in operating equipment safely and effectively during emergency responses or critical transport scenarios.
- Ability to drive safely under urgent conditions while lifting heavy equipment or patients when necessary; physically capable of heavy lifting tasks required for patient handling.

Requirements
- Clean driving record and criminal background check
- No felony convictions or disqualifying history
- Must be 18 years old and legally authorized to work in the U.S.
- Position designated as safety-sensitive; subject to random drug testing and Live-Scan fingerprinting
- Applicants hired who are not initially credentialed in all Optional Modules must obtain the required credentials as determined by operational needs. Eligibility for Lead EMT status will be based on individual readiness and capability rather than a fixed time frame. Advancement to Lead EMT shall require demonstrated operational competence and approval from the Chief of Operations, ensuring that only qualified individuals assume leadership roles.
