VACANCY NOTICE
POSITION TITLE: Pet Handler
BUILDING(S): To be determined
CLASSIFICATION: Per diem
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: $25/hour, up to ½ day, 3 days a week
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Building Administration or Designee
SALARY: $25.00/hour
EVALUATION PROCEDURES: Annually
START DATE: August 2025

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
2. Knowledge of dog’s training and characteristics.
3. Ability to handle dogs in diverse settings.
4. Strong interpersonal and intrapersonal skills.
5. Ability to work with a linguistically and culturally diverse public.
JOB DESCRIPTION / RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Attend scheduled training sessions.
2. Transport the therapy dog to facility visits.
3. Accompany therapy dogs during school visits.
4. Familiarize the therapy dog with the facility and staff.
5. Provide support to the therapy dog.
6. Maintain a clean and safe environment, including picking up after the therapy dog.
7. Promote positive relationship between therapy dogs and students/staff.
8. Monitor the behavior and needs of the therapy dog.
9. Manage schedule based on the therapy dog’s needs, as well as students’ needs.
10. Ensure the therapy dog is well groomed, nails trimmed and is wearing the vest
indicating they are part of the EA Paws/Healing Hearts Pet Therapy Program.
11. Follow all district implemented policies and directives from building
administration.
12. Wear all district identification as required.
13. Exhibit legal and ethical behavior in their professional practices; follow and
implement all district rules, regulations, practices and policies.
14. Demonstrate a high level of professionalism with the ability to maintain
confidentiality and personal flexibility in all areas.
