This role is responsible for preparing nutritious, high-quality meals and snacks for all children in the center while maintaining compliance with CACFP guidelines and Michigan childcare regulations. The Meal Service Team Member ensures a safe, sanitary, and efficient kitchen environment that supports the health and well-being of our children.
Key Responsibilities: Meal Preparation & Service
- Prepare and serve breakfast, lunch, AM snack, and PM snack daily for all classrooms.
- Follow all CACFP rules, regulations, and portion guidelines when planning and preparing meals.
- Ensure all meals meet nutritional requirements and follow center menus.
- Accommodate food allergies, dietary restrictions, and special dietary needs based on documentation.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen that meets all licensing and health department standards.
- Properly store food items, maintain accurate labeling, and monitor expiration dates.
- Follow all food safety procedures, including safe food handling, temperature control, and sanitation protocols.
- Complete daily temperature logs, production records, and other required documentation.
- Manage kitchen inventory, including weekly food and supply counts.
- Complete and submit food and supply orders in a timely manner.
- Work within an approved budget and prevent unnecessary waste.
- Maintain familiarity with Michigan childcare licensing rules related to food service.
- Follow all health department, CACFP, and internal policies and procedures.
- Communicate regularly with the Director regarding menus, supplies, issues, or concerns.
- Experience in childcare, school, or institutional food service settings (preferred).
- Knowledge of CACFP meal patterns and documentation requirements (required or willing to learn).
- ServSafe Certification or willingness to obtain (preferred).
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and stand for extended periods.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage time efficiently.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently.
- Reports to: Center Director
- Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM – 2:30 PM
