Requires Missouri Special Education Certification, School Counselor, School Psychological Examiner, School Psychologist or Licensed Professional Counselor.
Any interested certified Rockwood employee eligible to transfer (180 days contract or more) must submit a TRANSFER application to this posting before the internal closing date to be considered.
If new to the district, start date is August 11, 2026.
Regular teacher orientation start date is August 18, 2026.

POSITION SUMMARY: Educational diagnosticians collaborate with schools and school psychologists/examiners to complete educational evaluations for students with suspected disabilities. This position includes individual testing with students and maintaining compliance with state and federal law. Educational diagnosticians are also required to write initial IEPs for qualifying students.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Administering and interpreting testing and conducting observations.
2. Coordinating, scheduling, and attending all evaluations and eligibility staffings with school psychologists/examiners.
3. Managing new referrals and transfers through the evaluation process.
4. Reviewing existing data and assessing for all initial and follow up evaluations.
5. Conferring with multiple disciplines regarding educational impact.
6. Supporting the building level special education team.
7. Creating initial IEPs.
8. Performing other duties as necessary to support the mission and vision of Rockwood Early Childhood Program.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, Board policy, administrative procedures and forms, and governmental regulations and guidance.
- Complete forms, write professional reports, and engage in written correspondence
- Present information effectively and respond to questions
- Read, analyze, and interpret testing and psychological information/data;
- Work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and analyze data for instruction; apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Solve a variety of problems in many different situations; interpret instructions presented in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
- Apply knowledge of current educational theory and instructional techniques
- Draw reasoned conclusions and make professional recommendations supported by data and research
- Identify needs and abilities of individual students; establish and maintain effective relationships with students, staff, and administrators
- Perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Perform basic computer functions such as word processing and internet use; use district software; utilize smart boards, projectors, and other instructional technology provided by the district.
- Speak and hear in a typical school environment; read handwritten or printed material.
- Consistent and regular attendance is an essential function of this position.
- The position requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, hearing, and speaking.
- Work is performed in a typical school environment, which can at times be noisy and chaotic.
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
1. Master’s degree in education or related field; (Certification as a School Counselor, School Psychological Examiner, School Psychologist, or in special education issued by the State Board of Education; or a Licensed Professional Counselor license issued by Division of Professional Registration).
2. Previous experience serving and evaluating students with disabilities preferred.
3. Ideal candidates will have a professional and friendly demeanor with a demonstrated ability to work well with a variety of individuals in a fast-paced environment.
