Position Summary

The Heavy Highway Field Engineer supports the successful execution of roadway, bridge, paving, grading, and heavy civil construction projects. Working closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, and field crews, this role assists with project coordination, documentation, scheduling, quality control, and field operations to ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of heavy highway construction projects.
  • Review project drawings, specifications, and contract documents to ensure field activities comply with project requirements.
  • Perform quantity tracking, production reporting, and daily field documentation.
  • Coordinate with Project Managers, Superintendents, subcontractors, inspectors, utility companies, and clients.
  • Assist with project scheduling and monitor progress to help maintain project milestones.
  • Perform field measurements and verify layout, grades, elevations, and quantities.
  • Support quality control efforts by ensuring work meets company standards, project specifications, and applicable regulations.
  • Prepare and maintain RFIs, submittals, as-built drawings, change order documentation, and daily reports.
  • Track material deliveries, equipment utilization, and production quantities.
  • Identify field issues and assist in developing practical solutions to keep projects on schedule.
  • Promote and enforce company safety policies and OSHA regulations.
  • Attend project meetings and provide updates on project progress.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of roadway construction, grading, drainage, paving, traffic control, and utility coordination is a plus.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with HCSS, Procore, Bluebeam, AutoCAD Civil 3D, GPS equipment, or surveying technology is preferred.
  • Valid driver's license with the ability to travel between project sites.

Preferred Skills

  • Familiarity with NJDOT specifications and construction standards.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced field environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent time management skills.
  • Self-motivated with a desire to learn and grow within the heavy civil construction industry.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Frequent walking on active construction sites and uneven terrain.
  • Ability to stand, climb, kneel, and bend throughout the workday.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
