EAC Network, a leading not-for-profit agency dedicated to empowering and supporting over 80,000 people through 120 impactful programs across Long Island and NYC, is seeking part-time In-House Counsel to join our Nassau and Suffolk Guardianship Programs.
- Wage: $45-$56 per hour depending on experience
- Location: 175 Fulton Ave, Suite 400 in Hempstead and 320 Carleton Ave in Central Islip
- Schedule: Up to 21 hours per week - must be able to travel between Counties
Primary Purpose of Job:
The Case Manager for the Nassau Adult Guardianship program is responsible for all aspects, including personal needs and/or property management of home-based intervention services and case management for incapacitated adults in the Community Guardianship Program.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
- Interpret laws, rules and regulations regarding Article 81 and Guardianship proceedings.
- Prepare and file contracts, briefs, motions, and other legal documents on behalf of clients.
- Represent clients and the Guardianship Program in court appearances, including hearings, conferences, and related proceedings
- Provide legal support and guidance on program-related matters, including eviction proceedings, foreclosures, turnover proceedings, wills, real estate transactions, trusts, and Medicaid advocacy.
- Negotiate on behalf of clients to achieve appropriate legal and financial outcomes.
- In collaboration with the Program Director, track and manage all court-related deadlines, including compliance and status conferences, and ensure timely follow-up.
- Ensure all program activities remain in compliance with court orders, legal mandates, and Article 81 requirements.
- Collaborate with courts, county agencies, financial institutions, and external legal partners to support client needs and case resolution.
- Provide guidance, consultation, and training to program staff on legal processes and guardianship-related matters.
- Identify opportunities to improve legal processes, policies, and overall service delivery within the Guardianship Program.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential client records in accordance with agency and legal standards.
- Travel regularly between Suffolk and Nassau Counties to support program operations.
- Transport clients to and from court hearings using own vehicle, as needed.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by the Program Director and EAC Network Administration
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required:
- Law Degree and a member in good standing of NYS Bar Association required.
- Regular travel between Suffolk and Nassau Counties is required
- Frequency or expectation of regular court appearances in both Suffolk and Nassau Courts.
- Must be proficient in office and computer applications or other automated systems such as spreadsheets, Microsoft Office applications, calendar systems, and e-mail and/or database software skills necessary to perform job responsibilities.
- Minimum of two years of relevant work experience preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.
- Must have access to an automobile and possess valid NY State Driver’s license.
