What this job involves: The Electrical Engineering Design Manager is responsible for leading the electrical design function across assigned projects, ensuring technical excellence, compliance with codes and standards, and alignment with client and business objectives. This role oversees consultants and contractors, manages design deliverables from concept through construction, and collaborates closely with cross-functional teams including architecture, mechanical, sustainability, and project management. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical leadership, proven project delivery experience while driving innovation and efficiency in electrical systems design. What your day-to-day will look like: Liaise with client groups to ascertain project requirements and formulate proposals for delivery of the same. Advise on the proper implementation of client’s design process through the feasibility, scheme design, detailed design, construction and handover phases of designated projects. Review and approve design calculations, drawings, specifications, and BIM models for technical accuracy and completeness. To assist in planning appropriate levels of design management resources. Advise on the project brief and manage the approval process in conjunction with the Project Manager through the client approval process. Notify and liaise with the APAC Head of Projects & Head of Engineering and any other Senior Management and interface with regarding any escalated project issues. Notify the project team where design issues may impact upon overall cost management of a project. Manage the appropriate documentation and sign offs take place at strategic times during the project. Delivering full auditing capability of all aspects of the design management process. Provide consultative support as required to other business groups within client’s organization on any engineering requirements. Drive continuous improvement in design processes, tools, and engineering standards, including adoption of digital engineering and automation technologies. Review and technically analyse relevant new product innovations. Regular liaison with the global engineering team advising on a series of global initiatives including the benchmarking of projects and design process. Required Skills and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent Minimum 8 years of experience in electrical engineering design for building systems. At least 3 years in a leadership or managerial role is preferred. Proven experience managing multidisciplinary teams and large-scale commercial or institutional projects. In-depth knowledge of electrical distribution systems, lighting design, codes and standards, and construction documentation. Proficiency with design and analysis software and BIM workflows. Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and collaborate across all levels. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Experience with sustainable design, LEED, Fitwel, or similar certification processes is a plus. Willingness to travel occasionally to project sites or client offices as needed.
