What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sr. Accounting Manager - Interim position at E78 Talent?
We have partnered with a PE-backed home services platform in the Pasadena, California area seeking a Senior Accounting Manager to help stabilize and scale our core accounting operations. This role is equal parts hands-on execution and process improvement: accelerating month-end close, strengthening balance sheet integrity, cleaning up legacy issues, and building the standardized workflows and controls needed for reliable reporting. Local candidates who can work in a hybrid model are preferred.
What you’ll do
- Month-end close & financial reporting: Stabilize and accelerate the month-end close; create standardized close checklists/workflows; improve the quality, accuracy, and reliability of financial reporting outputs.
- General ledger & reconciliations: Perform and validate balance sheet reconciliations; clean up legacy accounting issues and unsupported balances; improve consistency of journal entries and account classifications; support day-to-day GL accounting and close execution.
- Process standardization & controls: Establish standardized accounting SOPs and process documentation; implement foundational accounting controls and governance; reduce manual Excel-based processes and eliminate inefficiencies.
- Finance organization & operational support: Provide on-site “boots on the ground” accounting support; support training and adoption of standardized processes; identify and drive quick wins to improve efficiency and close timing.
What we’re looking for
- 7 years of progressive accounting experience, including Accounting Manager / Senior Accountant responsibilities with direct ownership of month-end close.
- Demonstrated strength in balance sheet reconciliations, account research, and remediation of legacy issues (clear support, clean tie-outs, and sustainable fixes).
- Strong U.S. GAAP foundation, with the ability to translate issues into practical journal entries, reclasses, and process improvements.
- Experience building/standardizing close checklists, SOPs, and controls in a fast-moving environment.
- Comfort operating hands-on (not just reviewing)—able to jump into GL detail, fix what’s broken, and coach others on the new standard.
- Advanced Excel skills; ability to reduce spreadsheet dependency through better workflows and system usage.
- ERP/accounting system fluency (NetSuite, Intacct, Sage, Dynamics, QuickBooks Enterprise, or similar); ability to learn new systems quickly.
- PE-backed, multi-entity, or acquisition/integration experience preferred; home services/field services background a plus.
- CPA preferred.
