Job Summary:
The Floor Inspector is responsible for conducting in-process and final inspections of boilers and economizers during and after fabrication to ensure compliance with applicable codes, specifications, and quality standards. This role is vital to maintaining product integrity, safety, and regulatory compliance in a high-performance manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform daily inspections of welding, fitting, assembly, and fabrication of boilers and economizers.
- Ensure all work complies with ASME, NBIC, and customer-specific code requirements.
- Conduct dimensional checks, material verifications, and visual inspections.
- Verify proper identification and traceability of materials and components.
- Review and validate weld procedures, welder qualifications, and WPS documentation.
- Inspect welds using NDT techniques such as PT (Penetrant Testing) or VT (Visual Testing), and coordinate with Level II or III inspectors for UT/RT as needed.
- Ensure all shop travelers and quality documents are correctly filled out and maintained.
- Coordinate with production teams to identify and resolve quality issues on the floor in real time.
- Report non-conformances and participate in root cause analysis and corrective action processes.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment following OSHA and company safety standards.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification in welding, NDT, or QA/QC is a plus.
- Minimum 3 years of experience inspecting pressure vessels, boilers, or heat recovery equipment in a manufacturing environment.
- Working knowledge of ASME Section I, Section VIII, and Section IX codes.
- Familiarity with weld symbols, blueprints, P&IDs, and fabrication drawings.
- Basic NDT knowledge (VT, PT) and ability to support or coordinate with certified inspectors.
- Strong attention to detail and documentation skills.
- Proficient with measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, etc.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or equivalent credential.
- Experience with ERP or quality management systems.
- Previous work with economizers or HRSG (Heat Recovery Steam Generators).
