Hiring: AWS Data Migration Architect | 15 Years Experience

Location: Torrance, CA — Onsite

We are seeking a highly experienced AWS Data Migration Architect with a minimum of 15 years in database engineering and a strong track record leading at least 5 end-to-end AWS database migration projects. This role requires deep hands-on experience with AWS DMS, AWS SCT, and enterprise database modernization initiatives, ensuring low-downtime, secure, and optimized migrations.

🛠 Role Overview

The architect will design, lead, and execute complex database migrations from on-premises or cloud environments into AWS platforms like Redshift, RDS, and Aurora. The ideal candidate is a migration specialist proficient in schema conversion, performance optimization, CDC, data validation, and compliance.

🔹 Key Responsibilities

Migration Strategy & Planning

• Perform pre-migration checks (constraints, triggers, indexes)
• Assess existing database environments: SQL Server, DB2, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL
• Design strategies for homogeneous and heterogeneous migrations
• Create detailed cutover and rollback plans
• Define migration blueprints for non-production and production systems

Execution & Optimization

• Configure AWS DMS replication instances, endpoints, and tasks
• Use AWS SCT for schema conversion (primarily SQL Server & DB2)
• Apply custom transformations and resolve mapping incompatibilities
• Optimize performance during full load and CDC replication
• Ensure minimal downtime and data integrity across all stages

Validation & Compliance

• Conduct thorough post-migration validation and reconciliation
• Enforce compliance: IAM, SSL/TLS, encryption, KMS
• Document processes for audit and future scalability
• Provide post-migration support, tuning, and stabilization

Collaboration & Communication

• Work closely with DBAs, cloud architects, and application teams
• Communicate progress, risks, and mitigation plans
• Offer technical leadership through migration execution cycles

🎓 Required Skills & Qualifications

Technical Expertise

• Deep hands-on experience with:
• ✔ AWS DMS
• ✔ AWS SCT
• ✔ Redshift, RDS, Aurora
• Strong SQL, scripting (Python, Bash), and AWS CLI skills

Database Knowledge

• Strong experience with: SQL Server, DB2, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL
• Expertise in heterogeneous migrations & CDC

Cloud & Security Skills

• Understanding of VPC networking, IAM, encryption, security best practices
• Certifications preferred:
• ✔ AWS Solutions Architect
• ✔ AWS Database Specialty

Preferred Experience

• Large-scale migrations (multi-terabyte databases)
• ETL & data transformation tools
• DevOps automation for migration workflows
