Special Education Service Delivery Grounding Principles

About The Position

The Inclusion Support Specialist provides targeted academic support and implements Specially Designed Instruction (SDI) for a small group of students with significant special needs in inclusive classroom settings. This role ensures students have meaningful access to the general education curriculum through individualized instruction, adaptations, and modifications aligned with their Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals.

This 10-month full-time role will report to the Assistant Director of Student Support Services. The starting salary range for this position is $43,926 - $80,051.

Role And Responsibilities

Specially Designed Instruction (SDI)

  • Deliver direct instruction tailored to meet individual student IEP goals, using evidence-based strategies and accessible instructional methods.
  • Adapt and modify curriculum, instructional materials, and assessments to address students’ unique learning needs.
  • Integrate functional academics, communication skills, and life skills into lessons as appropriate for individual student profiles.
  • Utilize visual supports, assistive technology, and other specialized tools to facilitate learning and promote independence.

Academic Support in Inclusion Settings

  • Provide one-on-one and small-group instructional support within the general education classroom to reinforce grade-level content and functional skills.
  • Pre-teach, reteach, and scaffold academic concepts to ensure comprehension and participation in classroom activities.
  • Assist students in completing assignments, projects, and assessments with appropriate accommodations and modifications.

IEP Implementation & Progress Monitoring

  • Implement instructional accommodations and modifications as outlined in each student’s IEP.
  • Collect and maintain accurate data on student performance related to academic and functional goals.
  • Provide progress updates to the special education teacher and contribute input for IEP meetings.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Work closely with special education teachers, related service providers, and general education staff to align instructional supports.
  • Share instructional strategies, progress data, and resource needs with the instructional team to enhance student outcomes.
  • Maintain open and professional communication with staff and families regarding academic progress.

Classroom Preparation & Materials Management

  • Prepare adapted instructional materials, visual aids, and learning supports in advance of lessons.
  • Organize and maintain resources for student use, ensuring accessibility and readiness for instruction.
  • Assist with setting up learning environments that maximize student engagement and access to the curriculum.

Qualifications

You Have:

  • High school diploma and completion of the ParaPro Praxis Exam or 48 college credits toward a bachelor’s degree in education, special education, or related field.
  • Experience supporting students with significant special needs in educational settings.
  • Knowledge of Specially Designed Instruction and the ability to adapt curriculum for diverse learners.
  • Strong organization, communication, and collaboration skills.

Preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, special education, or related field.
  • Special Education certification or enrollment in a certification program.
  • Experience with assistive technology, augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), and visual supports.
  • Oral and/or written proficiency in Spanish.

Salary : $43,926 - $80,051
