Responsibilities

• Safely operate school buses according to established routes, schedules, and traffic laws, ensuring timely pick-up and drop-off of students.
• Follow all transportation safety regulations, including emergency response procedures and vehicle codes, to maintain a secure environment for passengers.
• Assist students with disabilities or special needs by providing wheelchair assistance and ensuring their comfort and safety during transit.
• Maintain clear communication with school staff, parents, and dispatchers using effective English language skills to report any issues or delays promptly.
• Conduct pre-trip inspections of the vehicle to verify proper functioning of brakes, lights, signals, and safety equipment before each route.
• Respond quickly and appropriately to traffic changes or emergencies, including emergency stop procedures and heavy lifting when necessary.
• Uphold student discipline policies by managing passenger behavior professionally while fostering a respectful atmosphere onboard.

Requirements

• Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with appropriate school bus endorsements; experience in school bus driving preferred.
• Knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle codes, and transportation safety regulations applicable at state and local levels.
• Proven experience working with children or in environments requiring patience, communication skills, and customer service orientation.
• Certifications in first aid and CPR; familiarity with emergency response procedures for transportation is highly desirable.
• Ability to perform heavy lifting when assisting students or handling bus equipment; physically fit to sit for extended periods and respond swiftly during emergencies.
• Multilingual skills are a plus to effectively communicate with diverse student populations; knowledge of student discipline policies is beneficial.
• Strong attention to detail, quick response to traffic changes, and excellent written skills for completing reports accurately.

Pay: From $28.00 per hour

Expected hours: 35.0 – 40.0 per week
