What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fleet Accountant position at E.C. Phillips & Son?
Fleet Accountant / Operations Analyst
Location: Corporate Headquarters – Ketchikan, Alaska
Type: Full-Time, On‑Site
Industry: Seafood • Marine Operations • Logistics
Love numbers and fast-moving operations? Enjoy working at the heartbeat of a company where vessels, fishermen, seafood, logistics, and customers all intersect? If you want a dynamic role that blends analysis, coordination, communication, and hands‑on impact—this is the job.
We’re looking for a sharp, curious, and energetic Fleet Accountant / Operations Analyst to join our HQ team in Ketchikan. This isn’t a back-office number‑cruncher role—this is an ops‑forward, people-connected, ERP‑power‑user role that supports our fleet, our customers, and our seafood operations every single day.
You’ll be the go‑to expert for fish ticket processing, seafood landing analysis, fisherman payments, freight coordination, and order processing—while also helping us improve processes, data visibility, and overall operational efficiency.
What You’ll Do (Your Impact Zone)
Seafood Operations & Fleet Accounting
- Process fish tickets accurately and promptly for incoming seafood landings.
- Calculate and process fisherman payments, keeping clear records and ensuring timely disbursements.
- Analyze seafood landing volumes, trends, and margins to support fleet and purchasing decisions.
- Serve as a power user and problem solver in our corporate ERP system—helping teams use it smarter and faster.
Logistics & Movement Coordination
- Coordinate freight and passenger movements by air and by sea—ensuring smooth schedules and clear communication.
- Work with carriers, vessels, and internal stakeholders to organize logistics that keep our operations moving.
Customer & Sales Operations
- Communicate with customers regarding orders, shipments, schedules, and inventory availability.
- Use our ERP/CRM system to create sales orders, pick tickets, and shipping documents.
- Ensure orders are fulfilled accurately and on time—yes, you’ll actually help get products out the door.
Operations Analysis & Support
- Build ad‑hoc reports that help teams understand performance, landings, logistics, and other KPI trends.
- Identify inefficiencies and recommend process improvements—data operations = your playground.
- Support management with budgeting insight, operational forecasting data, and cost analysis (no financial statements required!).
- Collaborate across departments—fleet operations, logistics, finance, sales, and customer service.
Who You Are (The Ideal Fit)
- You may have experience or education in Accounting, Finance, Business, Supply Chain, Fisheries, Marine Industry, or you bring strong industry experience and an eagerness to learn.
- Comfort with numbers is important—but you don’t need technical corporate accounting skills.
- You enjoy a mix of desk work operations customer interaction.
- You’re curious, proactive, and not afraid to figure things out.
- You enjoy juggling multiple tasks and solving real‑world operational puzzles.
- Strong communication skills—you’ll talk with fishermen, logistics partners, customers, and internal teams.
- You’re fluent with Microsoft Office, especially Excel, and you’re excited to learn and master modern ERP systems.
Why This Role Is Exciting
- It’s fast-paced and varied—no two days are identical.
- You get to contribute directly to the movement of seafood, people, and freight across Southeast Alaska.
- You become a core part of the fleet and operations heartbeat—not stuck in a silo.
- You build skills in operations analytics, logistics planning, ERP systems, and seafood industry processes.
- You work at the center of a team that values initiative, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
If you're ready for a role that blends accounting fundamentals with marine operations, logistics, customer service, analysis, and ERP mastery—we want to meet you!
