What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lighting Director position at DZL Management Company LLC?
The lighting director position functions under the supervision of and in coordination with the Production Manager. The lighting director is responsible for creating the look and feel of the event. They help ensure lighting is set up the way the act and production team wants without causing any safety hazards or damaging equipment.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Builds solid, professional relationships with artists and clients. Provides immediate, friendly, and personalized service to enhance their experience.
- Communicates with artists, clients and other staff members to ensure deadlines are met and projects are completed to specifications.
- Supervises all lighting aspects for shows and events.
- Coordinates with acts, production managers, and stage managers to ensure that the lighting needs are implemented as planned.
- Installs and dismantles lighting systems safely.
- Ensures that the lighting is working properly and conforms to the design specifications. Troubleshoots lighting and electrical issues when they occur.
- Observes performers on stage to make sure that they are adequately lit.
- Stays up-to-date on knowledge of current lighting technology.
- Moves with a sense of urgency.
- Adheres to all company policies and procedures as established in the Staff Handbook.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Experience Required:
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent, preferred
- 2-3-years of experience
- Must pass a criminal background check
Skills and Knowledge Required:
- Proficient knowledge of Chamsys Lighting Boards
- Proficient knowledge of several lighting fixtures (Chauvet, Elation, Unique, etc.)
- Proficient in programming, rigging, playback, etc.
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
- Excellent service orientation.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and focus on serving others.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Good command of the English language.
- Ability to listen to and understand requests.
- Ability to remain calm when working under pressure.
- Good judgment and decision-making skills.
- Reliable, responsible, and dependable.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced, high energy, and physically demanding environment.
- Must be able to stand, walk, and reach for prolonged periods.
- Must be able to push, pull and lift objects from a lower to higher position or move objects horizontally, from position to position.
- Must be able to maintain body equilibrium to prevent falling while walking, standing or crouching in narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces.
- Must be able to carry loads greater than 35 pounds and exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently.
- Will be required to use physical capabilities including climbing and ascending or descending ladders, stairs, and ramps.
- Able to hear sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction.
- Able to work in environment with moderate to high noise levels.
- Specific vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
- Able to work varied shifts, including evenings, late nights, weekends, and holidays.
