Position Summary
The Engineering Supervisor is responsible for leading and overseeing a team of technical staff to ensure the successful execution of engineering projects, product development initiatives, and continuous improvement activities. This role combines technical expertise, project management, and people leadership to achieve organizational objectives related to quality, cost, safety, and delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & People Management
- Supervise, coach, and develop a team of technical professionals.
- Assign workloads, establish priorities, and monitor team performance.
- Promote a culture of collaboration, accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Support hiring, onboarding, training activities and development plans.
Engineering Operations
- Plan, coordinate, and oversee engineering projects from concept through implementation.
- Ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and according to technical specifications.
- Review and approve engineering designs, drawings, calculations, and documentation.
- Monitor project risks and implement mitigation plans.
- Ensure compliance with applicable engineering standards, regulations, and company procedures.
Continuous Improvement
- Lead root cause analysis and problem-solving activities.
- Identify opportunities to improve product quality, manufacturing efficiency, and operational performance.
- Support Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement initiatives.
- Develop and implement engineering best practices and standardized processes.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Operations, Production, Quality, Supply Chain, Sales, and Product Development teams.
- Provide technical support for manufacturing processes and customer requirements.
- Participate in strategic planning and capital investment projects.
- Communicate project status and technical information to management and stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Manufacturing, or related discipline).
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation is considered an asset.
- 5 years of engineering experience in a manufacturing, industrial, or product development environment.
- 2 years of supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
- Proven experience managing engineering projects and technical teams.
- Strong understanding of engineering principles and project management methodologies.
- Experience with CAD software and engineering documentation systems.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes, quality systems, and continuous improvement tools.
- Strong leadership and team-building skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Effective decision-making and problem-solving capabilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Results-oriented mindset with strong organizational skills.
