Principal Engineer, Product Leadership
Base salary: $200K to $300K plus equity
Location: New York, 4 days in person | Full time

Your architecture could influence where a city spends its next road dollar. Public works teams in Albany, New York, and Covington, Kentucky, are among the platform's users. This Principal Engineer role gives you wide technical ownership across maps, product workflows, data quality, and the small engineering team building the operating layer for public infrastructure.

We are hiring for a company building the operating layer for the infrastructure cities maintain. Roads are the starting point: imagery, vehicle data, GIS records, engineering documents, and local knowledge become a living map of assets and their condition. Public works teams can use that evidence to plan capital, explain priorities, and manage work. The longer ambition reaches sidewalks, drainage, signs, bridges, and other public assets. The product has customers, revenue, and funding, while the engineering choices that define the next phase are still open. You would join a world-class engineering team that includes a founding software engineer formerly at Brex and a machine learning engineer formerly at X, Google's moonshot factory.

What you'll own

Make the decisions that let the product grow without losing clarity. You will work directly with the founder and customers, build consequential parts of the system, and raise the judgment of engineers around you.

• Own architecture across the user experience, services, and geospatial model.
• Build the most important product and data workflows yourself.
• Set standards for tests, observability, data provenance, and release safety.
• Mentor engineers and make trade-offs visible to product and customer teams.
  
  

Problems you'll solve

A road condition model is valuable only if its output survives scrutiny. You will connect a street view to its history, condition, proposed work, and source evidence while keeping the system adaptable to different cities.

Candidate fit

• You have owned significant customer-facing systems as a Principal or Staff engineer.
• You can balance durable architecture with fast customer learning.
• You want to lead standards and people while remaining hands-on.
• You can work in New York in person 4 days per week.
