Direct Support Professionals provide essential one-on-one support and independent living skills training to individuals within an apartment-style community setting. This role empowers individuals to lead fulfilling, independent lives through personalized care, mental health assistance, and community integration. As part of a small team, you will report directly to the program manager and team lead, with occasional local travel required and use of specialized software for documentation.
Responsibilities
- Provide personalized 1:1 support to develop and enhance independent living skills
- Assist individuals in managing mental health through coping strategies and skill-building
- Educate and demonstrate community integration skills such as medication management, personal finances, and public transportation
- Create opportunities to facilitate socialization and encourage appropriate behavior
- Participate in scheduled and spontaneous recreational events to promote social engagement
- Offer guidance on healthy living habits and support skill development to enhance well-being
- Deliver culturally sensitive care aligned with individual service plans
- Travel within the Metro Area as needed with applicable mileage reimbursements
Required Qualifications
- Ability to pass a Department of Human Services background check
- Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently
- Current driver’s license, clean driving record, personal vehicle with insurance, and willingness to travel locally
- Person-centered approach consistent with the agency’s program and service plans
- Ability to work effectively with culturally diverse populations
- Flexibility to adapt to changing responsibilities as the company and role evolve
Preferred Qualifications
- 1 years of behavioral health experience
- Associate degree in Human Services or related field
- Experience in person-centered care and independent living skills training
- Cultural competency and crisis intervention skills
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Flexibility and ability to navigate community resources
- Familiarity with specialized software tools for documentation and reporting
