We're seeking a Senior Communications Consultant- Subject Matter Expert to support the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
The ideal candidate has a strong background in strategic communications consulting for external clients, experience working with or supporting VA, and is ambitious with the ability to lean into complex challenges. Key Responsibilities
- Serve as subject matter expert on Section 508 and accessibility requirements
- Lead accessibility compliance reviews and remediation efforts
- Establish and maintain accessibility processes across communications workflows
- Advise teams on accessibility requirements during product development
- Monitor regulatory updates and translate them into actionable guidance
- Support training and awareness on accessibility best practices
- Review and remediate PDF, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint products for compliance
- Conduct accessibility testing using tools such as screen readers and validation software
- Identify and resolve issues related to forms, tables, graphs, and visual elements
- Participate in stakeholder meetings to provide accessibility guidance
- Maintain documentation and standards for accessibility compliance
- Bachelor's degree required
- 5 years of relevant experience
- Strong knowledge of Section 508 and accessibility standards
- Experience with Adobe Acrobat Pro, CommonLook, and screen reader tools
- Experience remediating complex documents and visual content
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
- 508 certification
- Familiarity with WCAG, Plain Writing Act, and related federal requirements
- Experience in federal consulting environments
- Experience supporting health, IT, or Veteran-focused programs
