Matern Staffing is hiring a Compliance Specialist for an advance security tech company in the Fredericksburg, VA region. The Compliance Specialist ensures the organization operates in accordance with applicable federal laws, regulations, and contractual requirements related to government contracting. This role supports the company’s ethics and compliance programs and helps maintain adherence to export, import, and other regulatory requirements.
The Compliance Specialist partners with cross-functional teams including contracts, legal, finance, HR, and security to identify compliance risks, implement controls, and promote regulatory adherence across the organization.
Salary: $85,000-$105,000/yr

What You’ll Do:
Export and Security Compliance
- Ensures the organization operates in full compliance with export control requirements for sensitive technologies and data
- Supports enterprise-wide cybersecurity compliance efforts by working closely with IT and security stakeholders
ATF Import & Licensing
- Manage and support regulated import activities, including permitting, licensing, and coordination with appropriate federal agencies
- Ensure timely and accurate processing of import documentation and compliance with reporting requirements for controlled materials
- Maintain required federal registrations related to the importation of regulated or defense-related items
- Oversee ongoing compliance and renewal of applicable federal licenses, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements and responsible party designations
Regulatory Compliance
- Monitor and ensure compliance with federal government contracting regulations including Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) and Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS)
- Interpret regulatory requirements and communicate their impact to internal stakeholders
- Track regulatory updates from agencies such as the U.S. Department of Defense and implement policy updates as required
Policy and Procedure Management
- Develop, update, and maintain internal compliance policies and procedures
- Maintain documentation supporting compliance with contractual and regulatory obligations
Audits and Risk Management
- Conduct internal compliance reviews and risk assessments
- Support external audits and reviews from agencies such as the Defense Contract Audit Agency and the Defense Contract Management Agency
- Track corrective actions and ensure remediation of identified compliance gaps
Training and Awareness
- Provide employee training on ethics, government contracting compliance, export controls, and regulatory obligations
- Promote awareness of company compliance programs and reporting mechanisms
Investigations and Reporting
- Assist in investigating potential compliance violations, conflicts of interest, or ethics concerns
- Prepare reports and maintain records related to compliance monitoring activities
What You’ll Need:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Law, Compliance, Finance, or related field
- 3 years of experience in compliance and government contracting in the aerospace and defense industry
- SME in ITAR / EAR export controls
- SME in ATF import controls
- Knowledge of federal acquisition regulations and government contracting requirements
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Ability to interpret complex regulations and apply them to business operations
- Strong documentation and audit preparation skills
Preferred Certifications
- Certified Compliance & Ethics Professional (CCEP)
- Certified Internal Auditor (CIA)
- Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) for cybersecurity compliance roles
Work Requirements
- Ability to obtain or maintain a U.S. security clearance may be required depending on contract requirements
- Valid U.S. passport required to support potential international travel related to government contracts or program support
- Occasional interaction with government representatives and auditors from agencies such as the Defense Contract Audit Agency and the Defense Contract Management Agency
- Ability to travel domestically or internationally as required to support contract compliance activities
