Overview
We are seeking a motivated and dependable Driver - Class B to join our dynamic transportation team! In this role, you will be responsible for safely transporting special needs students from their homes to school and back. It is a split shift position with a route in the AM and a route in the afternoon. Students may display defiant behaviors and/or use profanity.
PRE-REQUISITE QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma required. Class B license with passenger endorsement required. Experience working with students with developmental disabilities in education settings preferred. Must become certified in Crisis Prevention Institute Training (CPI) which is provided by the school.
WORK HOURS: Part time; split shift. Hours vary according to route(s) assigned. Hours can begin as early as 6am until 9am, and afternoon shift starts at 1:45pm and end as late as 5pm.
GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION:
Provide safe and efficient transportation for special education students. Must maintain a good driving record, ability to transport students in a safe and efficient manner, maintain cleanliness of van, and provide the transportation department with daily trip sheets to ensure maintenance upkeep and vehicle performance reliability.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Essential duties include, but are not limited to the following items:
· Transport students to and from home, school, in accordance with school schedules, as assigned, utilizing company owned passenger van.
· Oversee and assist with the loading and unloading of students, releasing students only to authorized individuals; ensure safety belts are fastened.
· Maintain order and discipline of passengers; document and report behaviors on an incident report.
· Conduct mandatory safety and operational inspection of assigned vehicle daily.
· Maintain vehicles in safe, clean operating condition at all times reporting discrepancies immediately via Daily Pre-trip Inspection form or by written Vehicle Repair Request; remove all trash, sweep, wipe down all doors and dashboard, and clean all windows daily; follow established safety and security protocol.
· Follow prescribed drop off and pickup order of assigned students, consulting with supervisor prior to any deviation.
· Monitor students with special health problems; follow prescribed instructions and procedures or difficulties encountered; administer first aid, as necessary, and call for emergency assistance if needed.
· Collect and return students' personal property when entering and disembarking.
· Maintain records and reports including, but not limited to: mileage, maintenance, and stop times.
· Attend meetings, and in-service training as assigned.
· Maintain required licenses and/ or certificates in compliance with applicable laws.
· Notify dispatcher or supervisor of any delays in scheduled route.
· Assist with other routes when breakdown or other unusual circumstances occur.
Qualifications
- Valid Class B commercial driver’s license (CDL) with clean driving record
- Excellent driving skills with a focus on safety and compliance with traffic laws
Pay: $18.00 - $19.00 per hour
