Senior Controls Engineer is part of a talented team of engineers assisting in the design, development, and implementation of control systems for various industrial applications. Essential Responsibilities:
- Design and development of control systems, including PLC/PAC programming, HMI development, and SCADA systems.
- SCADA server specifications, configuration, architecture design, and optimization.
- Develop process control logic including but not limited to sequencers, Plant Pax, Batch control, clean in place (CIP), and line control.
- Perform software unit testing.
- Development of simulation logic and perform software Factory Acceptance Tests.
- Understanding of instrumentation types, manufacturers, scaling, and troubleshooting.
- Design Instrumentation bill of materials (BOM).
- Interpret piping and instrumentation documentation (P&ID’s) with knowledge of ISA symbology and tagging conventions.
- Development of technical documentation, including device lists, I/O lists, functional descriptions, control schematics, submittals and user manuals.
- Design control panel bill of materials (BOM), layouts, and schematics in AutoCAD and ePLAN.
- Perform electrical schematic peer review, redline and interact with the electrical design team.
- Perform control panel engineering quality control checkout and hardware Factory Acceptance Testing.
- Perform installation qualification (IQ), operational qualification (OQ), and performance qualification (PQ) during project commissioning in an industrial/manufacturing environment.
- Perform service calls during and after business hours in an industrial/manufacturing environment.
- Ability to multitask among varying active projects with effective time management with the goal to meet or exceed project milestones.
- Execute projects with attention to detail and effective communication.
- Lead and execute projects with careful planning, attention to detail, and effective communication.
- Actively contribute, support, and interact with internal project team members, vendors, customers, and field personnel.
- Interact with client stakeholders during project executing using appropriate communication methods.
- Collaborate within a team environment.
- Work outside normal business hours as required to provide project and customer support.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering OR High school diploma or GED plus equivalent controls experience.
- 5 years of experience in industrial controls; design, programming, testing, and commissioning of automated control systems.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Expert with Microsoft Office Suite Programs.
- Team lead on medium to large projects with moderate guidance from senior staff and management.
- Expert in understanding complex electrical circuits and troubleshooting.
- Expert in multiple platforms such as Rockwell Automation, Siemens, and Automation Direct industrial controllers.
- Expert in multiple visualization platforms such as FactoryTalk View SE, Ignition, and Wonderware SCADA platforms as well as PanelView and C-More OIT terminals.
- Expert with multiple networking protocols including EtherNet/IP, DeviceNet, ControlNet, and AS-i Bus.
- Advanced understanding of Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID’s) and developing appropriate control system design documents.
- Expert with Microsoft SQL Server or equivalent.
- AutoCAD Electrical and ePLAN experience for panel/schematic design following UL 508A, NEC and IEEE standards.
- Expert in specification of process instruments and industry standard hardware.
- Mentorship of junior staff members.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Servo and motion control experience.
- Process knowledge in the food and beverage industry.
- CIP process experience.
- Batch Process experience.
- OEE/MES experience.
Working Environment:
- Both office and industrial environment. In the industrial environment, employees are occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, outside weather conditions, wet, cold, hot, humid, noisy conditions.
- Work outside normal business hours as required to provide project and customer support.
- Travel within the continental US up to 20% annually.
