Summary:
The primary role of the Metal Shop Quality Technician will be to interpret, comply with and improve DVM’s quality assurance standards. Essential to this responsibility will be the requirement to ensure quality assurance activities are documented, internal reporting processes adhered to, and regular audits implemented. The Metal Shop Quality Technician will identify any training needs and ensure the metal shop is aligned to the quality management system.
Responsibilities:
- Plan, execute, and document in-process and final inspections and testing of fabricated metal components to verify conformance with required specification and deliverables.
- Verify dimensional accuracy using calipers, micrometers, height gauges, angle finders, and other precision measuring tools.
- Inspect welds, cuts, bends, and finishes for quality and compliance with MCG fabrication standards (e.g., AWS, ASME).
- Assist operations team in tracking, documenting, and reporting quality levels for performance, environmental, health, and safety goals and key performance indicators.
- Investigate product complaints and reported quality issues to ensure closure in accordance with company guidelines and external regulatory requirements.
- Monitor risk-management procedures using required software/platforms and documentation to identify, investigate, and report issues to management and product development teams.
- Communicate and collaborate with production teams, engineers, and supervisors to address quality issues and implement corrective actions.
- Support root cause analysis and participate in continuous improvement initiatives (e.g., 5S, Lean, Six Sigma).
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge/Experience:
- Minimum required education - High School Diploma. Associates degree or higher preferred, or equivalent experience in a related field.
- 1-3 years of experience in warehouse inventory management required.
- More than 1 year of experience in metal shop manufacturing and quality control in an industrial setting required.
- Prior knowledge of and experience with quality assurance and continuous improvement standards, terminology, methods, and tools including ISO9001, version control procedures, non-conformance/corrective action processes, auditing, 8D, 5Why, PFMEA, Kaizen, process flow mapping, etc. (Preferred)
- Ability to interpret basic electro-mechanical diagrams including front elevation, one-line, manufacturing, and schematic drawings
