What are the responsibilities and job description for the Engine Assembly Technician position at Durable Assembly?
New Build Engine Assembly Technician
Position Summary
The New Build Engine Assembly Technician is responsible for the blueprint-accurate blueprint, component preparation, and ground-up assembly of new industrial engine networks and specialized thermal propulsion systems. Unlike a standard teardown mechanic, this role centers on high-precision, repetitive manufacturing, initial system integration, and quality-controlled commissioning of new machinery before it is entered into the commercial fleet.
Key Responsibilities
- Ground-Up Engine Assembly: Build complex diesel power systems and specialized flameless heating core assemblies from the bare engine block/housing to a fully completed, production-ready unit.
- Precision Specification Alignment: Utilize engineering drawings, schematic diagrams, and strict manufacturer assembly manuals to install internal and external engine accessories to exact torque and spatial tolerances.
- Component Verification & Prep: Inspect new parts out of the crate for finish imperfections, material defects, or dimensional variations; perform initial fitments and pre-lubrication of moving assemblies using specialized assembly lubes.
- Fluid & Electrical Integration: Route and secure brand-new high-pressure fuel lines, hydraulic networks, coolant plumbing, and electrical wire harnesses directly onto the newly built engine chassis.
- First-Run Commissioning: Assist the Quality Control team with initial fluid primes, starting sequences, and multi-point break-in testing procedures.
- Production Quality Documentation: Maintain rigorous assembly logs, recording electronic torque signatures, part serial numbers, and clearance measurements to ensure absolute traceability for the manufacturing division.
Required Qualifications
- Experience: 2 years of dedicated experience in an engine manufacturing plant, specialized assembly-line facility, or high-volume engine-building environment (e.g., aviation, motorsports, or heavy equipment production).
- Technical Interpretation: High proficiency in reading and translating complex mechanical blueprints, structural schematics, and geometric dimensioning tolerances (GD&T).
- Precision Tools: Experienced with calibrated assembly equipment including electronic click and dial torque wrenches, feeler gauges, and pneumatic component lifting hoists.
- Core Competencies: Detail-oriented focus with the ability to maintain repetitive accuracy and high cleanliness standards on an active shop floor.
