SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The role involves providing classroom support, offering one-on-one behavioral assistance, enhancing the regular classroom curriculum with additional enrichment activities, and facilitating small group behavioral support. This position requires regular interaction with community members, parents, students, and staff, and it is essential to engage with these groups in a professional, friendly, and organized manner.

PAY RANGE:

$21.00-$23.00 per hour plus benefits

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must meet all Indiana requirements as a highly qualified Instructional Assistant.
  • Two years of college or the equivalent is required to provide instruction to a student.
  • Experience and certification as a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) and knowledge of ABA principles is preferred

PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

  • Provide instruction assistance and effective behavioral support to students with the direction and guidance of the teacher and/or facilitator
  • Provide dedicated one-on-one support with individual students or small groups for the purpose of practicing and/or reinforcing learning concepts and behavior interventions.
  • Develop and create materials to be used during behavior instruction.
  • Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Plans and Behavior Intervention Plans for the students.
  • Accurately collect and document behavior data and skills acquisition progress
  • Utilize behavior modification and evidence-based interventions
  • Provide supervision and support for individual students inside and outside the classroom to enable them to fully participate in activities
  • Collaborate consistently with a Multidisciplinary team, including special education personnel, speech pathologists, occupational and physical therapists, classroom teachers, and behavior coach to ensure seamless delivery of services.
  • Assist classroom teachers with documenting and maintaining student records, including data collection methods
  • Support students with emotional or behavioral concerns and assist them in developing appropriate social skills
  • Support students with intensive applied skills needs.
  • Utilize de-escalation strategies to prevent behaviors that could be harmful to self or others
  • Be a part of the crisis team for the classroom and building to support appropriate Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI)
  • Perform health-related student needs as trained by the nurse in the building.
  • Perform utility needs associated with students' needs for bathroom usage, changing of clothing due to soiling, or other needs associated with the physical well-being of the students
  • Support escorting throughout the building and to and from the bus as necessary
  • Assist in classroom management
  • Assist with the administration and scoring of student assessments
  • Assist with the inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment
  • Assist the teacher with administrative records and the preparation of required reports
  • Function as an appropriate role model for children, providing proper examples, emotional support, a friendly attitude, and general guidance
  • Respond to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving student safety concerns and reporting those concerns to the direct supervisor
  • Keep the teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual students
  • Attend staff meetings and/or after-school functions when directed by the director or administrator
  • Complete other responsibilities as deemed necessary by the director, building administrator, or administrator designee
  • Supplementing the regular classroom curriculum with additional enrichment activities

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

  • Demonstrate interpersonal skills necessary to deal tactfully and effectively with persons at all levels in order to develop and maintain productive relationships with all publics
  • Knowledge/awareness of assistive technology tools preferred
  • Ability to learn new skills quickly and assimilate into daily work
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality both inside and outside the corporation
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Ability to multitask with attention to detail
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to changes in the normal day and expectations
  • Proficiency in the use of technology for instruction and record keeping
  • Proficiency in the use of and the ability to learn required instructional software ( i.e., Microsoft Office, Canvas, Skyward, Google Docs)
  • Demonstrate organizational and time management skills
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by immediate supervisors and district administrators

Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Hours: This position is typically expected to work an average of 7-8 hours/day, 180 days per year. Hours/days may be adjusted per the direct supervisor to assure adequate coverage to meet the demands of the school and job.

Equipment: This position is required to maintain a working knowledge of all instructional equipment. A basic knowledge of operations for computers and software, printers, projectors, smart boards, telephone systems, fax machines, and copiers is required.

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, and taste or smell. The employee must frequently lift or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Pay: $ $23.00 per hour

Expected hours: 35.0 – 40.0 per week
