Dundee Manufacturing Company is seeking a skilled, safety-focused Die Set-Up Technician to support our metal stamping operations. This position is responsible for setting up and troubleshooting progressive stamping dies, adjusting feeder systems, programming and maintaining die protection systems, and ensuring safe, efficient production. The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, enjoys solving technical problems, and is committed to producing quality parts while maintaining a safe work environment.

Key Responsibilities

Die Set-Up & Production

  • Perform complete die set-ups on a variety of stamping presses.
  • Safely establish shut height and verify proper die operation.
  • Set up existing dies and assist with new die installations.
  • Troubleshoot buckles, short feeds, eject failures, progression issues, and other production concerns.
  • Release completed die set-ups to production after verifying proper operation.
  • Update and maintain set-up documentation as required.

Feeder Systems

  • Set up and adjust servo, pneumatic, Rapid-Air, and PA feeder systems.
  • Adjust feed length, speed, acceleration, deceleration, pilot release, spring tension, and progression settings.
  • Perform factory resets and feeder parameter adjustments.
  • Diagnose and correct feeder performance issues, including backlash and spring pressure concerns.

Die Protection & Controls

  • Set up, adjust, and troubleshoot die protection systems.
  • Understand and utilize CIECO, Wintriss, AIDA Smart Die Protection, and SmartPac Pro systems.
  • Adjust die protection windows and sensor timing.
  • Configure sensor logic (MOM, NO, NC) and verify proper operation.
  • Install and adjust laser, fiber optic, and proximity sensors as needed.

Tonnage & Press Systems

  • Set and monitor tonnage using AIDA, Wintriss, and CIECO systems.
  • Understand hydraulic overload systems, counterbalance functions, and load cell operation.
  • Reset tonnage alarms and load appropriate tonnage programs.
  • Assist with basic servo motion programming when required.

Quality

  • Submit quality first-piece samples for inspection.
  • Work with Quality and Tooling to resolve defects and improve processes.
  • Create documentation for process improvements when appropriate.

Mechanical & Technical Support

  • Read blueprints, production drawings, and process documentation.
  • Use precision measuring equipment including depth micrometers and radius gauges.
  • Perform drilling, tapping, and basic machining operations is a plus, not required.
  • Perform basic MIG welding and welded repairs when required (experience is a plus, not required).
  • May be asked to perform press lubrication and light maintenance to support production operations.

Safety

  • Follow all MIOSHA and company safety requirements.
  • Complete required press safety inspections and check sheets.
  • Understand light curtain operation, safety distance requirements, and machine safeguarding.
  • Safely operate forklifts to move dies and equipment (valid forklift certification required or obtainable).
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.

Qualifications

  • 2–3 years of die setting or progressive stamping experience.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience with servo feeders and automated feeding systems preferred.
  • Experience with die protection systems and tonnage monitoring preferred.
  • Ability to read blueprints and use precision measuring instruments.
  • Welding, drilling, tapping, and basic machining experience preferred.
  • Ability to safely lift, move, and handle tooling and production equipment.
  • Strong commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
