Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work cooperatively with principal, nurse, staff, students and parents towards a productive school culture
  • Promote academic progress of students via attendance-commitment-behavior consistent with safe schools
  • Coordinate with attendance/truancy officer in identifying student attendance-behavior for parent contact
  • Collaborate with teaching staff in development of classroom management processes for at-risk students
  • Support a cooperative learning school environment focused on “experiential” & place-based learning
  • Contribute to design of master school schedule addressing Electives, Fieldwork & Jicarilla Cultural Events
  • Provide student counseling underwriting student socio-emotional well-being and positive school culture
  • Interface with Jicarilla Apache Nation Behavioral Health Department in student intervention services
  • Adhere to district policy/procedures and provisions of State/Federal regulations & law in school operations
  • Network with local community and Jicarilla Apache Nation as liaison for Continuous Improvement
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned

 

Liaison/Communication

 

  • Establish and maintain open lines of communication internal and external to the school environment with parents and staff, concerning issues impacting the socio-emotional and academic progress of students.
  • Work with other professional staff to establish & develop plans for struggling students, evaluate effectiveness of plans, and modify/implement strategies to further promote and advance student success.
  • Network with students and parents regarding developmental matters - standards of conduct - safety issues,

requiring analysis and development of a remedial plan(s).

  • Finalize and implement proactive student measures through class/program changes, counseling, home visits, behavioral plans, outside intervention(s) or other, to underwrite student success.
  • Oversee and communicate all academic resources and options to families of students requiring additional academic – behavioral support, outside of the district.
  • Communicate with principal regarding pertinent parent meetings, student issues, stakeholder concerns.

 

Qualifications

 

  • Masters Degree in Education Administration, Social Work or School Counseling (Preferred)
  • Valid Licensure/Certification Per NMPED (or ability to obtain)
  • 3 Years Successful Teaching or Related Social Work/Counseling Experience Documented
  • 2 Years Site/District/Agency Verified Work Experience
  • Experience Working in Culturally & Linguistically Diverse Communities/Tribal/School Environments
  • Ability to Communicate Clearly and Concisely in Both Oral and Written Form
  • Ability to Problem Solve/Critical Think Situations involving Diverse Stakeholders in Respectful Manner
  • Ability to Work Collaboratively at Site & District Levels

 

Working Conditions

 

Work is normally performed in an interior/office setting, with given activities requiring outside management of activities for limited to extended periods of time. May be required to assist with moving large items or lift, push, or pull up to 40 lbs.

Position may require working evening and weekend hours periodically; demonstrate sound judgment and communication with individuals and diverse stakeholder groups.
