Introduction:

DTX provides support services to Federal Agencies, one of those being NOAA’s headquarters campus in Silver Spring, MD. This position requires daily onsite presence However, NOAA and DTX do offer a relaxed and supportive work environment that fosters collaboration and flexible work schedules. DTX observes all of the same Federal Holidays (11 holidays) as NOAA.
DTX is looking for a Commercial Designer and Space Planner with multiple years of experience planning Systems Furniture workstation designs, coordinating with furniture vendors for specifications and pricing, preparing minor construction design plans, and updating CAFM base building space utilization drawings. As a Designer/Space Planner you will work closely with the project manager, other designers, installers, technicians and other DTX project members in addition to the NOAA COR Design Manager and other federal officials. Preference will be given to designers with experience in Herman Miller Systems Furniture
NOAA’s Space Planning mission is to design environments that are resilient, efficient, and functional based on current and future needs of the Staff and Line Offices. Designs must meet NOAA space standards, and all recommend codes. Projects are to be professionally executed and completed within a timely manner to minimize disrupting the employee. Principal duties of the Space Planner are to meet with the internal clients at NOAA, review the scope of work and capture the requirements requested by the Staff and Line Offices at NOAA. Most of the work requirements are reconfiguring workstations utilizing onsite inventory, facilitating procurement of new furniture items, adding power and data outlets, anchoring wall mounted equipment, and preparing finish plans. The designer will create schematic designs to illustrate the concept of the proposed layout using the existing layout as a starting point. Floor plans are to be accurate and easy to follow for the client. In addition, the designer/space planner will work closely with the project manager, the systems furniture installers, and other support services.
Qualifications:
Our desired skills and knowledge for the Designer/Space Planner are:
· Excellent knowledge of space planning commercial/government office spaces, especially systems furniture (preferably Herman Miller) layouts.
· Ability to coordinate with clients, team members, colleagues, and vendors.
· Produce furniture plans, schematic construction plans, elevation drawings, finish plans, legends and schedules.
· Has full understanding of governing codes and industry standards.
· Coordinate and schedule furniture reconfigurations, furniture installations, and client moves.
· Manage client expectations and their involvement in the design process.
· Excellent oral and written communication skills.
· Maintain project related records.
· Commitment to the team goals, show consistency, and support NOAA’s projects.
· AutoCAD user with 7 years of AutoCAD experience in a professional setup.
· Experience with CAP 2020 and Archibus is a bonus. CAP 2020 and Archibus are software programs that overlay on AutoCAD. Archibus also have an online interface for CAFM.
· Minimum 7 years’ experience working as a designer/space planner.
· Graduated from an accredited University with a minimum four-year bachelor’s degree specializing in Interior Design or related field.
· Be onsite daily. Telework may be available two days a week within 6 months.
· Preference will be given to designer with experience in Systems Furniture particularly HermanMiller and Steelcase systems.
Job Description:
Designing and providing technical support for, but not limited to typical office space planning and interior design, furniture and equipment layouts, conferencing/training rooms, campus amenity spaces, storage space, workstation design using systems or conventional freestanding furniture and specifications, preparing documents for acquisitions, updating tracking reports, preparation of building alteration drawings for minor renovations and construction.
· Assisting NOAA with achieving a higher utilization rate (UR) of facilities and improve space efficiency.
· As directed by the DTX project manager, work with other contract and/or Government personnel to develop/enhance existing/ maintain adherence to office/workspace and furniture standards to be used to improve utilization, assignment, and management of space in the NOAA NCR.
· Complete work requests for space plans, workstation reconfigurations, new furniture purchases, and design intent drawings independently and in coordination with team members, other contract and/or Government personnel, as directed by the DTX project manager.
· Performing management and maintenance of existing master drawing library utilizing AutoCAD, CAFM (ARCHIBUS), and various utilities, and maintain and manage all electronic files in the drawing library.
· Providing on-site AutoCAD, Cap 2020, and Archibus database maintenance support services to the NOAA. (Cap 2020 and Archibus are overlays of AutoCAD. Archibus also has an online interface for CAFM.)
· Maintain and update existing databases as requested by the Contract Office Representative (COR).
· Perform any another task assigned by the DTX project manager, federal design manager, COR, and other government supervisory staff.
