Duties
- Safely operate tractor-trailers with manual transmission across local, regional, or long-haul routes, ensuring compliance with FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) and DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations
- Load, secure, and unload freight using manual handling techniques, forklift equipment, or specialized tools as required
- Transport refrigerated trailers, flatbeds, tankers, hazardous materials, or freight requiring specific handling procedures
- Use GPS navigation systems to plan routes efficiently while adapting to traffic conditions and delivery schedules
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of trucks and trailers to identify maintenance needs or safety issues
- Maintain accurate logs of driving hours, cargo details, and delivery documentation in accordance with regulatory standards
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers and customers to coordinate deliveries and resolve any issues promptly
Skills
- Proven experience in commercial truck driving with a valid CDL A license
- Proficiency in operating manual transmission trucks and specialized vehicles such as dump trucks or roll-off trucks
- Knowledge of logistics cargo handling including load & unload procedures for freight, hazardous goods, or dangerous materials
- Familiarity with route driving using GPS navigation tools for optimal delivery planning
- Strong understanding of FMCSA regulations, DOT rules, hazardous materials regulations, and safety protocols
- Ability to handle manual handling tasks safely and efficiently during loading/unloading processes
- Experience with various truck types including refrigerated trailers, flatbeds, tankers, and tractor-trailers
- Excellent driving skills with a focus on safety, punctuality, and customer service excellence
