Director of Maintenance Needed for Leading Food Manufacturing Firm
Location: Greater Boise, ID area
The Director of Maintenance provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for all maintenance-related functions at a large-scale food manufacturing facility. This includes maintenance engineering, automation, utilities, wastewater operations, MRO processes, and spare parts inventory management. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise, executive presence, and a proven ability to enhance reliability, efficiency, and plant performance in a high-speed manufacturing environment. A key responsibility of this role is ensuring consistent product quality and adherence to food safety standards.
Leadership & Organizational Direction
- Provide executive leadership to all maintenance and technical support teams, including both direct and indirect functions.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) strategy in collaboration with site operations leadership.
- Build, mentor, and strengthen a high-performing team of engineers, technicians, and maintenance professionals.
- Optimize organizational structure and talent deployment to support operational goals.
- Oversee and continually improve MRO and spare parts inventory management, including budgeting, procurement, and cost tracking.
- Support key plant performance initiatives and foster strong collaboration with Quality, R&D, Engineering, Procurement, and Supply Chain teams.
- Drive continuous improvement through advanced use of automation, systems integration, and data-driven analysis.
- Lead Lean manufacturing efforts within maintenance operations and own the TPM pillar within the site's operating system.
- Manage preventive maintenance programs, reliability initiatives, and performance standards.
- Ensure a safe working environment and full compliance with all relevant regulatory and industry requirements.
- Oversee food safety and product quality programs, ensuring adherence to GMPs and all applicable standards.
- Maintain environmental compliance, safety policies, and operational integrity across the facility.
- Work closely with senior operations leadership on major site improvement and transformation initiatives.
- Oversee long-term capital project planning and execution, including large-scale utility and wastewater infrastructure projects.
- Manage budgets, schedules, and performance expectations for capital projects related to maintenance and facility reliability.
- Represent the facility in interactions with local officials, community stakeholders, and industry partners as needed.
Experience
- 5-7 years of senior leadership experience (Director level or above) overseeing maintenance and technical services in a high-speed manufacturing environment.
- 10-15 years of plant maintenance and manufacturing experience.
- Demonstrated ability to drive measurable operational improvements and lead large, diverse technical teams.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Food Science, Industrial Engineering, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related technical field.
- Strong experience with MRP/ERP systems.
- Working knowledge of HACCP, food safety regulations, and compliance requirements.
- Deep understanding of PLC systems, automation, and logic controls for high-speed production equipment.
- Applied experience with Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma methodologies (Kanban, pull systems, process mapping, standard work, etc.).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with proven root-cause analysis skills.
- Ability to manage operating budgets, capital budgets, and long-range asset planning.
- Ability to create a clear, motivating vision and guide teams through change.
- Strong customer service mindset and ability to build positive internal and external relationships.
- Excellent communication skills to articulate strategy, expectations, and performance goals.
Salary : $175,000 - $240,000
