Position Summary:
The Strategic Sourcing Manager - Clinical Trials is responsible for developing and executing sourcing strategies for clinical trial-related categories, including Clinical Development (Phases II-IV and RWE), Functional Service Providers (FSP), Biometrics, Central Labs, and Vendor Management (SRM). This role ensures cost-effective, compliant, and timely procurement of services and materials to support global clinical trials. The ideal candidate combines strong analytical skills, vendor negotiation expertise, and a deep understanding of life sciences and clinical operations.
Key Responsibilities
Sourcing Strategy & Category Management
- Define and implement sourcing strategies for assigned categories; secure approval from Category Manager and Head of Procurement.
- Build sustainable, profitable relationships with key suppliers to ensure innovation, high service levels, and preferred conditions.
- Conduct supplier market analysis and supply risk assessments; identify process improvements and cost-saving opportunities.
- Lead supplier negotiations leveraging global volumes; coordinate main contract negotiations.
- Manage supplier performance through regular business reviews with internal stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with ethical standards and promote responsible sourcing practices.
Productivity & Cost Optimization
- Maintain detailed knowledge of spend and cost drivers for assigned categories.
- Lead the sourcing process from RFP to contract signature.
- Achieve measurable savings and track productivity against targets.
- Develop and propose annual budget and productivity goals aligned with organizational objectives.
- Drive cross-site collaboration and "cross-fertilization" programs to maximize efficiency and economies of scale.
Management & Reporting
- Act as an ambassador for Source-to-Pay (S2P) processes and tools; recommend best practices to improve efficiency and service levels.
- Collect and report global procurement KPIs; maintain dashboards for visibility and performance tracking.
- Support internal audits and ensure compliance with procurement policies and procedures.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences, Business, Finance, or related field (Master's preferred).
- Experience:
- 5-6 years in a mid-size pharma company within Procurement or Outsourcing, or experience at a Global CRO in Contract & Proposal Development.
- Strong understanding of clinical trial operations and vendor management.
- Skills:
- Ability to translate technical project needs into clear budgets, timelines, and risk assessments.
- Skilled in cost analysis, negotiation, and contract management.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management in cross-functional, multicultural environments.
- Technical: Proficiency in procurement systems, MS Office, and familiarity with ERP tools.
