Environmental, Health, and Safety Specialist required for leading semiconductor manufacturer

The EHS Specialist will have the following responsibilities:
- Monitor EHS compliance in Class 1 to 1000 cleanroom environments, including gowning practices, chemical handling, and tool-related hazards
- Perform routine fab walkthroughs to identify unsafe conditions, ergonomic risks, and process deviations
- Support tool qualification, startup, and Management of Change processes to ensure EHS controls are implemented prior to production release
- Oversee hazardous production materials such as pyrophoric, toxic, corrosive, flammable substances, and compressed gases
- Maintain Safety Data Sheets, chemical inventories, and ensure proper storage of hazardous materials in compliance with regulations
- Support safety reviews for gas cabinets, valve manifold systems, and bulk chemical delivery systems
- Participate in emergency response efforts for chemical spills, gas alarms, and system upsets
- Support air permit compliance and emissions monitoring for VOCs, HAPs, acid gases, and abatement systems
- Assist with wastewater treatment operations including pH adjustment, fluoride removal, and metal discharge compliance
- Manage hazardous waste accumulation areas and coordinate disposal in accordance with RCRA and applicable state regulations
- Conduct environmental sampling, inspections, and regulatory reporting
- Implement and maintain safety programs including lockout tagout, confined space, fall protection, electrical safety, and machine guarding
- Conduct incident investigations using root cause analysis methodologies
- Deliver EHS training to employees, contractors, and tool installation teams
- Support inspections conducted by OSHA, EPA, fire authorities, and insurance representatives
- Review equipment installation packages to ensure EHS compliance, including exhaust systems, chemical and gas connections, and ergonomic considerations
- Partner with facilities engineering on utilities such as UPW, CDA, nitrogen, vacuum, and HVAC to ensure safe operation and maintenance
- Verify contractor compliance with safety protocols including hot work, elevated work, and controlled access procedures
The ideal EHS Specialist candidate will have the following skillset:
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline
- 2 to 5 years of EHS experience, preferably within semiconductor, chemical manufacturing, or other high-tech industrial settings
- Solid understanding of OSHA, EPA, and NFPA requirements, along with familiarity with semiconductor-related codes such as IFC Chapter 27 and FM Global standards
- Hands-on experience working with hazardous chemicals, gas detection systems, and emergency response situations
- Background in semiconductor manufacturing environments, including tool installation, cleanroom operations, or hazardous production material management, is preferred
- Professional certifications such as GISO, CHMM, CSP, CIH, or OSHA 30 are a plus
- Experience working within EHS management systems such as ISO 14001 and ISO 45001
- Exposure to continuous improvement methodologies like SPC, Lean, or Six Sigma
- Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively partner with and influence engineering and operations teams
- Detail-oriented and analytical approach suited for high-risk, fast-paced environments
- Ability to wear full cleanroom PPE for extended periods and respond effectively to alarms or emergency situations
