IT Field Technician

We are seeking a dependable, hands-on IT Field Technician (Contract) to support our Network Engineering team for a 3-month temporary assignment. This role is a great opportunity for an early-career IT professional interested in gaining practical experience working with network infrastructure in data center and client-site environments.

The position is based in Ashburn, VA, and requires regular travel to local data centers and customer sites. The IT Field Technician will work alongside experienced Network Engineers, assisting with equipment set up, cabling and basic hardware tasks. This is a task-focused, supportive role where instructions and guidance will be provided by senior technical staff.

Responsibilities

• Assist with rack and stack of network equipment such as router, switches, firewalls, and servers.
• Support with physical setup and removal of equipment in data center and client locations.
• Help with hardware replacements and swaps as directed by Network Engineer.
• Provide on-site assistance during installation, upgrade and maintenance activities.
• Assist with staging, inventory tracking, shipping and receiving network equipment.
• Follow company policies, safety guidelines and data center procedures.
• Handle equipment and customer information responsibly and confidentially.
• Maintain a dependable and professional approach throughout the contract period.
• Use basic hand tools safely when working with IT hardware.

Physical requirements and Work Environment

• Ability to lift 50 lbs. (team lifts available when needed)
• Regular standing, bending, kneeling, and occasional ladder use.
• Hands-on work with tools such as screwdrivers, drills, and cable tools.
• Work environment may include data centers or IT closets that are temperature-controlled, noisy, or dusty.

Qualifications / Skills / Knowledge

• High School Diploma or GED required.

• Willingness to follow instructions and learn standardized procedures.
• Comfortable working in a temporary, project-based role.
• Basic communication skills and a team-oriented mindset.
