Join our team as a Materials & Inventory Manager and play a key role in keeping production running smoothly by leading purchasing execution, inventory accuracy, and material readiness. This hands-on leadership opportunity is perfect for someone who enjoys problem-solving, improving processes, and creating efficient systems that support operational success. The position plays a critical role in supporting production uptime by ensuring that materials, components, and MRO supplies are available when needed—while minimizing excess inventory and improving system accuracy. 


This is an onsite role and is not eligible for relocation assistance.  This role is located in Eau Claire, Wisconsin – Local candidates strongly preferred. 


Schedule: Monday - Friday 


Key Responsibilities

Purchasing Execution:

  • Oversee day-to-day purchasing activities aligned with corporate sourcing strategies 
  • Issue and manage purchase orders for raw materials, components, and MRO supplies
  • Track open orders and coordinate expediting to prevent shortages
  • Maintain vendor communication for delivery performance and issue resolution

Inventory & Parts Room Management:

  • Own plant inventory accuracy across raw materials, MRO, and parts room inventory 
  • Lead cycle count program, including root cause analysis and corrective actions
  • Manage parts room operations including receiving, stocking, issuing, and organization
  • Identify and reduce slow-moving and obsolete inventory
  • Maintain appropriate stock levels using min/max and safety stock strategies

Production Support & Material Readiness:

  • Ensure materials are available to support production schedules and minimize downtime 
  • Track and escalate shortages impacting production
  • Coordinate with production and maintenance on critical parts needs
  • Support staging, kitting, and internal material flow as needed

ERP / Data Integrity:

  • Maintain accuracy of item master data (lead times, min/max, UOM, safety stock) 
  • Ensure consistency and discipline in inventory transactions
  • Investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies
  • Improve system data reliability to support planning and execution

Supplier & Cost Performance:

  • Monitor supplier delivery performance and responsiveness
  • Support issue resolution and escalation with corporate sourcing when needed
  • Track freight, expedite costs, and purchasing trends
  • Contribute to cost control through inventory optimization and waste reduction

Continuous Improvement:

  • Drive improvements in inventory accuracy, turns, and service levels 
  • Improve parts room layout, organization, and efficiency (5S, visual management)
  • Identify opportunities to streamline material flow and reduce handling inefficiencies

Leadership:

  • Supervise buyers and/or parts room personnel (if applicable)
  • Provide direction, accountability, and performance management
  • Establish consistent processes and expectations within the materials function


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Operations, or related field preferred 
  • 3–7 years of experience in purchasing, inventory control, or materials management
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment strongly preferred
  • Prior supervisory or team leadership experience preferred
  • Strong knowledge of ERP/MRP systems and inventory control practices
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills 


Preferred Skills

  • Experience managing MRO or parts room inventory
  • Background in cycle counting and inventory accuracy improvement
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles or continuous improvement
  • Experience working within corporate sourcing structure


Success Metrics (KPIs)

  • Inventory accuracy %
  • Cycle count compliance and discrepancy reduction
  • Parts availability / stockout frequency
  • MRO service level to maintenance
  • Inventory turns and excess inventory reduction
  • On-time material availability supporting production


Work Environment:

  • Work is performed in an office setting within an industrial environment.
