We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Bookkeeper / Accounting Specialist to manage the day-to-day financial operations of our growing marine dealership. This role is critical in ensuring accurate financial reporting across multiple departments, including boat sales, service, parts, accessories, docks/lifts, and operations.
This is not a basic data-entry role—we are looking for someone who understands how to manage accounting in an inventory-based, high-transaction business.
Responsibilities:
Key Responsibilities: Daily & Weekly Tasks
- Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and financing transactions
- Post and verify boat and PWC sales deals from Lightspeed DMS
- Record and reconcile service and parts department revenue
- Monitor cash flow and daily deposits
- Process vendor invoices and manage accounts payable
- Assist with customer payments, deposits, and refunds
Monthly Responsibilities
- Complete monthly close process (P&L, Balance Sheet, reconciliations)
- Reconcile inventory accounts (boats, parts, accessories)
- Verify payroll accuracy and reconcile with ADP Payroll Plus
- Prepare and file sales tax reports
- Identify discrepancies and resolve accounting issues
- Provide financial reports and insights to management
Additional Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate and organized financial records
- Assist in improving accounting processes and internal controls
- Work with external CPA for year-end reporting and tax preparation
- Support budgeting and financial planning efforts
- Help ensure compliance with company policies and procedures
- Work with the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles for customer titling and registrations.
QualificationsRequired
- 2 years of bookkeeping or accounting experience
- Strong understanding of accounting principles (debits/credits, reconciliations)
- Experience with accounting software (QuickBooks, Lightspeed, or similar)
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong organizational and time management skills
Preferred (Strongly Valued)
- Experience in a dealership environment (marine, automotive, RV, powersports)
- Familiarity with inventory accounting and floorplan financing
- Experience working with Lightspeed DMS or similar systems
- Ability to analyze financial statements and identify issues
Work Schedule
- Tuesday–Saturday (flexible hours are possible)
- Part-time or full-time opportunity, depending on the candidate
