Job Summary:

We are seeking a motivated and hardworking Construction Commercial Laborer / Apprentice Carpenter to join our team. This entry-level position provides the opportunity to gain hands-on experience and training in the carpentry trade while assisting with general labor tasks on commercial construction projects. As an apprentice carpenter, you will work under the guidance of experienced carpenters and tradesmen, learning the skills necessary to become a professional carpenter. You will also perform physical labor to support the construction process, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and in accordance with safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:

· Assist in Carpentry Tasks: Support skilled carpenters in various carpentry duties, such as framing, installing drywall, cabinetry, trim, and finishes.

· Material Handling: Assist in the delivery, organization, and management of materials and tools on the job site, ensuring everything is properly stored and easily accessible.

· Site Preparation: Prepare job sites by clearing debris, setting up scaffolding, and assisting with the layout of building materials.

· Blueprint and Specification Reading: Learn to read and understand blueprints, drawings, and technical specifications to assist in executing carpentry tasks with accuracy.

· Tool Operation: Safely use hand tools and power tools, such as hammers, saws, drills, and measuring instruments, under the guidance of experienced carpenters.

· General Labor: Perform physical labor tasks such as digging, lifting, carrying materials, cleaning, and maintaining a safe, organized job site.

· Follow Safety Protocols: Adhere to OSHA safety regulations and company safety standards to ensure a safe working environment at all times.

· Assist in Site Cleanliness: Help maintain a clean and organized job site, ensuring tools and materials are safely stored and waste is properly disposed of.

· Learn Carpentry Techniques: Take part in training programs and apprenticeship opportunities to learn and develop carpentry skills, including basic framing, drywall installation, finish carpentry, and other tasks.

· Work with Team Members: Collaborate with other laborers, carpenters, and subcontractors to ensure efficient project completion.

· Report to Supervisors: Communicate effectively with the Foreman or Project Manager regarding work progress, project needs, and any potential issues.

Required Qualifications:

· Entry-Level Experience: No prior carpentry experience is required, but general labor or construction experience is a plus.

· Strong Work Ethic: A reliable, hardworking individual with a strong desire to learn and develop skills in the carpentry trade.

· Physical Stamina: Ability to lift and carry heavy materials (up to 80 lbs), and perform physical labor in varying weather conditions.

· Willingness to Learn: Eagerness to take direction from skilled carpenters and supervisors and develop a career in carpentry.

· Attention to Detail: Ability to follow instructions and perform tasks with accuracy and care.

· Safety Conscious: Knowledge of and adherence to safety practices, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, gloves, and safety boots.

· Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment, assisting other workers when needed.

· Reliable Transportation: Ability to commute to job sites as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

· High School Diploma or GED is preferred.

· Basic experience with hand tools and power tools.

· Previous work experience in construction, labor, or carpentry is a plus but not required.

· Ability to read and understand basic construction documents (blueprints, sketches) is beneficial but will be trained on the job.

· A strong interest in pursuing a long-term career in carpentry.

Work Environment:

· The role involves working on commercial construction sites, with exposure to various weather conditions and physical labor.

· Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required at all times, including hard hats, safety boots, gloves, and hearing protection.

· The position requires standing, walking, lifting, bending, and climbing as part of the daily duties.

· Regular hours and occasional overtime may be required based on project needs.

· Night time differential (5% of the time)

· We typically stay local within a 60-mile radius of Syracuse, NY (95% of the time)

· Per diem when traveling and staying out of town (5% of the time)

  • Blueprint reading: 1 year (Preferred)
