Job Title: Production Scheduler
Position Overview
The Production Scheduler is responsible for planning and coordinating production schedules for precision machining operations to ensure on-time delivery and optimal resource utilization. This role includes managing raw material availability, inventory levels, and outside processing requirements while maintaining accuracy and efficiency in a high-precision manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Production Scheduling:
- Develop and maintain detailed machining schedules based on customer orders, capacity, and lead times.
- Sequence jobs to maximize machine utilization and minimize setup time.
- Adjust schedules as needed to accommodate changes in priorities or unforeseen delays.
Raw Material Tracking:
- Monitor and maintain accurate records of raw material inventory (e.g., steel, aluminum, specialty alloys).
- Ensure raw materials meet specifications and certifications before release to production.
- Coordinate with purchasing to replenish materials and confirm supplier delivery dates.
Inventory Management:
- Track finished goods and work-in-progress inventory to support production and shipping schedules.
- Forecast material requirements based on upcoming jobs and historical usage trends.
Outside Process Coordination:
- Schedule and track components sent to outside vendors for processes such as heat treatment, plating, coating, or grinding.
- Confirm vendor lead times and ensure timely return of parts to meet production deadlines.
- Maintain communication with vendors to resolve delays or quality issues.
Data Management & Reporting:
- Utilize ERP/MRP systems (e.g., BaaN, JobBOSS, SAP) to manage schedules and inventory data.
- Generate reports on schedule adherence, material usage, and vendor performance.
Continuous Improvement:
- Identify opportunities to streamline scheduling and material flow.
- Support lean manufacturing initiatives and process optimization projects.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; associate or bachelor’s degree in business, Supply Chain, or related field preferred.
- 2 years in scheduling or production planning within a precision machining or manufacturing environment preferred.
- Familiarity with CNC machining processes and related materials.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Proficiency in ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and understand machining requirements.
