Job Details
Job Purpose:The Kitchen Manager (Hourly Sous Chef) is responsible for overseeing daily back-of-house (BOH) operations during scheduled shifts. This role ensures that food preparation, quality, safety, and sanitation standards are upheld while supporting the culinary team and maintaining a positive, productive kitchen environment.
The Kitchen Manager leads by example through hands-on work, assisting with prep and service, upholding recipe standards, verifying line quality, and fostering team communication and collaboration.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee kitchen operations during assigned shifts to deliver a consistent, high-quality guest experience.
Ensure all culinary standards, recipes, and food safety protocols are followed.
Conduct line checks, monitor recipe adherence, and visually inspect product quality during service.
Support and motivate the kitchen team through positive communication, encouragement, and teamwork.
Escalate operational, staff, or guest issues to the Executive Chef or management team as needed.
Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant kitchen environment following all health, safety, and sanitation standards.
Assist in onboarding and training new culinary team members by demonstrating proper techniques and station standards.
Collaborate with front-of-house staff and management to ensure smooth and timely service.
Perform opening and closing duties, following venue checklists and procedures.
Complete other duties or special projects as assigned by the Executive Chef, Sous Chef, or General Manager.
Additional Information
Qualifications and Skills:
Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and support a team.
Solid understanding of cooking techniques, kitchen operations, and food safety standards.
Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced, high-volume kitchen.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, and manage time effectively.
Basic knowledge of kitchen inventory processes and ordering systems.
Familiarity with basic computer programs (Microsoft Office, inventory software, POS systems).
Education and Experience:
2 years of culinary experience in a leadership or supervisory role preferred.
Demonstrated skill in various cooking methods, ingredients, kitchen equipment, and procedures.
Knowledge of kitchen health and safety regulations and industry best practices.
Experience working in high-volume kitchen environments is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand for extended periods, walk up and down stairs, and work in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds without assistance.
Ability to move and travel throughout the venue as needed.
