Summary/Objective
The swim instructor is responsible for delivering high-quality swim instruction to members of all ages and skill levels while maintaining high standards of safety and professionalism.
Essential Functions
- Provide both large-group and small-group swimming lessons for children and adults.
- Develop and implement individualized lesson plans based on participant skill levels and goals.
- Develop clinics and programming for members of all ages during peak season.
- Actively supervise all participants to ensure a safe environment.
- Enforce pool rules and Tributary safety guidelines at all times.
- Maintain current knowledge of emergency procedures and respond appropriately to emergency situations.
- Communicate effectively with members and parents regarding participant progress.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe pool deck and instruction area.
- Deliver exceptional customer service consistent with Tributary's standards.
Marginal Functions
- Assist with club swim events, clinics, or seasonal aquatics programming.
- Support the Wellness team with light administrative tasks such as scheduling, lesson tracking, and monitoring swim reservations.
- Support general pool deck organization beyond instructional areas.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment
This position is an active outdoors position and the employee may be exposed to hazards including, but are not limited to, slipping, tripping, falls and sun exposure.

The employee is occasionally required to sit, stand, reach, lift, bend, kneel, stoop, climb, push and pull items weighing 50 pounds or less. The position requires manual dexterity; auditory and visual skills; and the ability to follow written and oral instructions and procedures.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a seasonal independent contractor position with flexible scheduling based on business demand, planned instruction times, and Swim Instructor availability. Hours may include daytime, and occasional holiday shifts. Schedule coordination will occur in partnership with the Wellness Center team.
Travel
There is no travel expected for this role.
Required Education and Experience
- Current Lifeguard Certification
- CPR/ AED and first Aid Certification
- Swim Instructor certification preferred
Preferred Education and Experience
- Previous swim instruction experience preferred.
- Experience in a private club, resort, or hospitality environment preferred.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
Work Authorization
- Must have valid work authorization to work in the United States for I-9 form purposes.
