Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented CLD-A Driving Manager to help lead our transportation operations with efficiency and precision. Looking for someone with strong communication skills who encourages teamwork while maintaining a calm professionality under dynamic work situations. In this position, you will collaborate with other Driver Managers overseeing daily driving activities, ensuring DOT compliance and safety protocols, and coordinating with 40-50 drivers on their scheduled routes. The commodities hauled are Raw Milk, Organic and Conventional, on Tanker Trailers. Our power units are predominantly manual and the tanker trailers range from 2 axles up to 8 axles. The position is full time, expected weekly 50-60 hours of work, including weekends and holidays, in tandem with the co-managers.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate driving operations, including route planning and execution for local Organic and Conventional routes, local shuttle driving, and over-the-road routes.
- Ensure drivers abide by traffic regulations, safety protocols, and company policies during all driving activities.
- Manage fleet GPS tracking systems (Samsara) to monitor vehicle locations, optimize routes, and improve operational efficiency.
- Conduct new hire training, demonstrating proper driving techniques, food grade cleanliness, attention to detail, proper documentation and sampling procedures.
- Utilize Microsoft Teams and Samsara to maintain detailed records of driver performance, vehicle maintenance schedules, incident reports, and compliance documentation.
- Coordinate with on call maintenance for repairs and general upkeep to ensure safe equipment on roadways.
- Communicate effectively with drivers via phone, text, or Samara to provide route updates, safety alerts, and operational instructions.
- Assist the main office manager with interviews for potential new drivers.
- Participate in annual reviews, giving helpful feedback on performance for current drivers.
- Coordinate with external companies dispatch on daily matters including delays, re-routing loads, and commodity quality assurance.
- Provide driver relief on routes when needed.
Experience
- At least one year of prior Managerial Experience in the Trucking Industry.
- At least 2 years of Tanker Experience.
- Experience with Manual Transmission.
- Knowledge of DOT rules and regulations.
- Basic computer skills.
- Prior scheduling and/or dispatch experience.
While prior experience is required for this position, there will be co-managers to provide on the job training specific to the industry. The position will have an interim for such training purposes.
