What are the responsibilities and job description for the Production Counsel position at DramaBox?
DramaBox is seeking a Production Counsel with 3–5 years of entertainment law experience to support fast-paced, scripted, mobile- and digital-first productions across the full production lifecycle. In this role, you’ll handle both Above-the-Line and Below-the-Line matters while working closely with Production, Development, Finance, and Business Affairs to keep high-volume short-form productions moving efficiently and responsibly. This position is part of DramaBox’s growing U.S. Business & Legal Affairs team and collaborates with cross-functional partners throughout the production process.
This role includes drafting and negotiating talent, crew, and vendor agreements; advising on guild and labor issues; reviewing releases, clearances, and production risk; and providing on-set or near-set guidance on issue spotting, compliance, and real-time production questions. You’ll partner closely with production leadership and support decision-making in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
• Draft, review, and negotiate agreements for talent, crew, vendors, and other production partners.
• Advise on guild, union, and labor matters related to scripted short-form productions.
• Review and support releases, clearances, rights issues, and production-risk assessments.
• Provide on-set or near-set guidance on issue spotting, compliance, and real-time production questions.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Production, Development, Business Affairs, and Finance to maintain production momentum while managing legal and operational risk.
• Interface with external partners, including talent representatives, vendors, and outside counsel, as needed.
Qualifications
• JD required; California Bar preferred.
• 3–5 years of legal experience in scripted, digital, or other production environments.
• Familiarity with short-form scripted, digital-first, or vertical-format production is a plus, but not required.
• Strong drafting, negotiation, and issue-spotting skills.
• Experience with releases, clearances, or rights assessments is helpful.
• Sound judgment, discretion, and the ability to handle sensitive production matters confidentially.
• Candidates from both traditional film/television and emerging content-production backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
