C-Rae Materials is seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment & Plant Maintenance Technician to perform maintenance and repairs on heavy equipment, trucks, production machinery, and plant systems. This position works both in the shop and throughout the plant to ensure equipment remains safe, reliable, and operational.
The ideal candidate is a skilled, hands-on technician with strong mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and troubleshooting experience. This individual must be able to diagnose problems, complete repairs efficiently, and respond to equipment breakdowns while following all safety requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Diagnose, repair, and maintain loaders, excavators, dozers, skid steers, haul trucks, forklifts, and other heavy equipment.
- Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and repairs on plant machinery and production equipment.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.
- Repair and maintain conveyors, motors, pumps, bearings, gearboxes, crushers, screens, and related components.
- Perform engine, transmission, brake, steering, suspension, and drivetrain repairs.
- Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and work to minimize production downtime.
- Perform welding, cutting, fabrication, and component replacement as needed.
- Complete routine services, including oil changes, lubrication, filter replacement, and fluid inspections.
- Inspect equipment to identify safety concerns, excessive wear, leaks, or potential failures.
- Use diagnostic equipment, service manuals, schematics, and technical information to complete repairs.
- Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records.
- Keep tools, parts, work areas, and shop facilities clean and organized.
- Communicate equipment status, repair needs, and parts requirements to supervisors and operations personnel.
- Assist with ordering parts and maintaining an appropriate inventory of commonly used supplies.
- Follow all company safety procedures, lockout/tagout requirements, and environmental regulations.
- Perform additional maintenance and operational duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- At least three years of experience repairing and maintaining heavy equipment, diesel equipment, or industrial plant machinery is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and mechanical components.
- Experience maintaining aggregate, quarry, concrete, asphalt, or similar production equipment is strongly preferred.
- Welding and fabrication experience is preferred.
- Ability to read electrical diagrams, hydraulic schematics, equipment manuals, and technical documents.
- Ability to use diagnostic tools and independently troubleshoot equipment failures.
- Must provide or maintain the basic hand tools required for the position.
- Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record are required.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a maintenance and operations team.
- Strong attention to safety, quality, and equipment reliability.
- Dependable attendance and availability to work overtime, weekends, or respond to emergencies when needed.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
- Ability to regularly lift and carry up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift heavier items with assistance.
- Ability to stand, walk, climb, bend, kneel, crouch, and work in confined or elevated areas.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in changing weather conditions.
- Regular exposure to dust, noise, grease, moving equipment, and active production areas.
- Must be able to safely wear all required personal protective equipment.
Schedule
This is a full-time position. The regular schedule will be based on operational needs and may include early mornings, evenings, overtime, weekends, and emergency call outs.
