Reporting to DRA America’s Infrastructure & Civil Engineering HOD, you will be responsible for Civil engineering, project discipline design activities and coordination. This role includes the design and construction of civil engineering works, structures, and buildings, as well as the preparation of drawings and specifications. The Civil Design Engineer may also support the contractual management of civil contracts on site. This role will sit in Phoenix, AZ and may include site travel to various projects.
Purpose of the Position
To carry out civil engineering design and production of 3D models and specifications related to civil works including road networks, terrace/grading bulk earthworks, potable water systems, sanitary and storm water systems, and storage volume capacity. The role includes preparing 2D drawings in accordance with DRA CAD Standards and providing information to drafting staff to produce finalized drawings and plans.
Key Responsibilities
Civil Design
- Perform civil engineering design using Civil 3D and AutoCAD for site development projects including roads, grading, storm and sanitary systems, and stormwater management modeling.
- Complete engineering design calculations in accordance with applicable regulatory codes and standards.
- Convey technical design information clearly to CAD staff for drafting completion.
- Prepare engineering drawings in accordance with specified standards.
- Produce technical engineering reports and plans for studies and detailed designs.
- Prepare material take-off estimates and generate reports using applicable software.
- Develop information for tender documentation and participate in tender assessments.
- Supervise and administer contracts, including oversight of subcontractors with respect to Health and Safety compliance.
Project Management
- Liaise and coordinate with clients, project managers, and multidisciplinary engineers to ensure adherence to project and client requirements.
- Conduct site investigations and field testing, reporting findings to the Engineering Manager.
- Manage schedule, cost, quality, and scope for assigned design contracts.
- Accurately mark up designs for drafting personnel.
- Review work to ensure quality standards are met prior to issue.
- Operate within the framework of design contracts under management.
- Identify and manage engineering risks related to processes, systems, equipment, and infrastructure design.
- Work independently while managing multiple assignments concurrently.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related field, or Civil Engineering Technology Diploma from an accredited institution.
- Registered Professional Engineer (PE) or eligibility for registration.
Experience
- 4–8 years of experience in civil design within mining and infrastructure projects.
- Proficiency in Civil 3D for engineering design.
- Experience using AutoCAD and Infraworks.
- Experience preparing 3D models, grading designs, and infrastructure layouts.
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel), with the ability to independently manage email, calendar, virtual meetings, and team collaboration tools.
Physical Requirements:
While performing duties of this job, you may be required to stand, sit in a stationary position 50% of the time, alternate between sitting and standing, push/pull as necessary, reach overhead or below shoulder level, kneel, squat, or stoop.
May be required on occasion to lift and carry items such as files, documents, or small packages, typically up to 10 -20 pounds.
Frequent use of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and other office equipment.
Close visual acuity to perform activities such as reading, analyzing data, and working on a computer.
