Position Overview

We are seeking a Senior IT Systems Engineer to join our team. The Senior IT Systems Engineer is a senior technical leader who reports to the Director of IT and is responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting the IT infrastructure the organization runs on, including the physical systems within company buildings and the virtual systems behind them. This role owns servers, virtualization, storage, networking, firewalls, identity and access services, and cloud infrastructure, alongside physical technology such as alarm, door access, camera, and A/V systems, and keeps the environment available, secure, and recoverable. The Senior IT Systems Engineer evaluates business and technical requirements, designs scalable solutions, and takes ownership of complex implementations from initial planning through successful deployment and ongoing support.

Key Responsibilities

• Designs, deploys, and maintains server, virtualization, storage, networking, firewall, and cloud infrastructure, and administers identity and access services such as Active Directory, Entra ID, and Microsoft 365.
• Designs, deploys, and maintains physical technology systems across company buildings, including intrusion alarm, door access, camera, and A/V systems and their supporting network, from scope and layout through installation and commissioning.
• Monitors system performance, capacity, and availability, and addresses constraints before they result in outages.
• Leads complex IT projects spanning systems infrastructure and physical technology, including building buildouts, network infrastructure, A/V, surveillance, access control, alarm, server and virtual environments, cloud, and ERP deployments.
• Develops project plans, manages timelines and dependencies, coordinates internal resources and stakeholders, and surfaces technical challenges early.
• Serves as the technical lead for vendors, subcontractors, and the company's managed service provider, defining requirements, reviewing designs and submittals, coordinating site work, and verifying installations match what was specified.
• Plans and executes upgrades, migrations, and cutovers with minimal disruption to the business.
• Supports the company's cybersecurity program, owning patch management, server and endpoint hardening, and infrastructure security controls, and directs IT support staff through alerts, incidents, and remediation.
• Designs, performs, and tests backup and disaster recovery procedures, verifying that recovery objectives can be met.
• Maintains compliance with company policies and cybersecurity requirements, and documents infrastructure architecture, configurations, and standards.
• Automates routine administration and provisioning through scripting and configuration management, and advises IT leadership on infrastructure capability, risk, and investment.
• Provides technical direction and mentorship to IT support staff, serving as the escalation point for issues they cannot resolve.
  
  

Qualifications

Minimum:

• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, and six (6) or more years of progressive IT experience, including at least four (4) years leading technical projects, initiatives, vendors, or IT teams.
• Advanced knowledge of Windows Server, Active Directory, and virtualization platforms such as VMware or Hyper-V.
• Demonstrated knowledge of networking, firewalls, cloud infrastructure, security fundamentals, backup, and disaster recovery.
• Hands-on experience deploying physical technology such as cameras, access control, alarm, or A/V systems, including coordinating the vendors and subcontractors who install them.
• Strong troubleshooting and project-management skills, with effective communication across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  
  

Preferred

• Relevant certifications such as Microsoft Azure Administrator or Solutions Architect, VMware VCP, or AWS Solutions Architect.
• Experience administering Microsoft 365 and Azure or AWS environments, with PowerShell scripting and automation, and enterprise application or ERP deployments.
• Experience supporting a cybersecurity program, including security controls, monitoring, and incident response.
• Experience supporting multi-site or field-based operations, alongside a managed service provider and low-voltage subcontractors.
  
  

OR an equivalent combination of education, certification, and experience that results in the successful performance of the job. Additional education may substitute for required experience on one-for-one year basis or vice versa.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

• Knowledge of servers, virtualization, storage, networking, firewalls, cloud infrastructure, and identity and access services such as Active Directory and Microsoft 365.
• Knowledge of physical technology systems, including A/V, surveillance cameras, access control, and alarm systems.
• Knowledge of backup, disaster recovery, and cybersecurity fundamentals, including patch management and endpoint hardening.
• Skill in scripting and configuration management to automate routine administration and provisioning.
• Ability to evaluate business and technical requirements and design scalable, secure IT solutions.
• Ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously and prioritize competing deadlines.
• Ability to coordinate effectively with internal teams, vendors, subcontractors, a managed service provider, and business stakeholders.
• Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Ability to mentor and provide technical direction to IT support staff.
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of project outcomes from concept through completion.
  
  

Work Environment

• Primarily a desk-based office environment, with travel to company facilities and active jobsites to support deployments and oversee vendor and subcontractor installations. Hands-on periods in server and network rooms may require lifting up to 50 pounds, bending, and kneeling. Jobsite visits require personal protective equipment, and maintenance windows or system cutovers may occasionally fall outside standard business hours.
